Now that I'm retired, I want to get back to my photography hobby I had as a teen in the '50's. My favorite media has always been and will continue to be black and white.

Now I need a camera and I understand there have been a few changes since my film days.

Like everyone I want all the bells & whistles to enhance my photography, but I also want to keep it simple and get a good value for my dollar. This has been a challenge to say the least.

Recently, I've been hearing good things about the seemingly convenient Sony DSC RX10 & 10II with the nasty-nice 24-200mm f/2.8 Zeiss lens and if anyone has one would love their feedback .

I should add I am not technology challenged and have been getting my daily uglyhedgehog (love the name) for a few years now.

Dave

Hi Dave

And welcome to retirement. Hope you find a smooth transaction to it, and time serve you as you wish :)
I am not an expert, but i took the time to read about the camera, and must say that is looking like a fine simple mean machine to me :)

Welcome to the family! You can use the search link at top of page to find previous discussions on Sony cameras. There are a small handful of members with them :)

Welcome to the forum.
Your question is tough to answer. There are fantastic mirror less cameras on the market. Then there are always DSLRs which is the route I went. Many of the bridge cameras with non interchangeable zooms are also a good choice. Depends on how much weight you want to carry around and other factors. My best advice is to find a real photo store and then go in and try the cameras in your hand. That way you can get a really good indication of how they will feel when you purchase and get out there.

Glad you are finally here as a member! If you are not technologically challenged, you'll take to digital like a duck takes to water. Good luck!
