Welcome to Day 93 :) It's Macro Monday on our dedicated challenge month. Since a lot of us don't own macro lens' ... closeups will definitely count. This is one subject I need a lot of practice on. I will be out practicing with my extension tubes today .. but for now I only have close up examples. I look forward to seeing what y'all come up with....:)

Here are a few orchid shots from an orchid show 2 weeks ago. I used a tokina 100mm lens. For those who like to take flower photos these are my settings. Manual mode shutter speed 1/250 because shots are handheld and didn't want camera shake, F/11 to f/16 to get good DOF, 100mm ISO 100 on camera flash. I used the on camera flash and as you know when your close to an object it's usually way to bright and blows out the photo. Here's where exposure compensation comes in. I dialed the flash exposure down Up to -2.67 full stops. This kept the flowers looking natural and it also allowed me to use f/16 which gives great depth and detail. I was also at least 12 inches from the flower

And what was most maddening was when I returned on the lake after a trip to ER, they weren't biting anymore.

Flowers for macro Monday, Well I must be dreaming if I think I can find fresh blossoms here in the Canadian northeast. so I thought I would go with what used to be flowers. First some dried hydrangea petals still on the bush, taken outdoors this morning. the second hydrangea bouquet was taken inside with a flash. I used my Canon macro lens EF-S 60 mm. The third photo taken outside is a dried coneflower seed head. We have hundreds of these in our garden. i plant conflowers to lure butterflies to our garden and to my camera lens.
