Zippy is my dog, Gracie's playmate. I just put up a bird feeder out front and while photographing my tulips I caught Zippy trying to get into the bird feeder. He didn't succeed but made several attempts during the day. Several times Gracie chased him higher in the tree or out of the yard.

Post your squirrel photos.

Ron

SHOOT THE TREE RAT!
(I hate those things, between trying to nest in the roof, eating everything around, fruits, bird seeds and spreading their fleas, I see nothing cute in that invasive, destructive specie...)
One good thing: they make for a good gravy stew ingredient.

Silver, great photographs. I'm learning from your photos and mine that those "tree rats" as someone referred them, are also pole climbers. I guess that little guy is doing some house cleaning in that last capture.

Wow! I didn't even know they existed. When I first saw it I had to take a double take. Unique critter. Thanks for sharing.

Here's a Black Squirrel one of my children photographed in Montreal years ago. It was so weird seeing all these black critters zipping all over.

Tree rats taste like squirrel and make good eating. I had one figure out how to open the filler door on my bird feeder, saw him inside the feeder, had to wire it shut. They are fun to watch. Have had as many as 15 in my backyard at one time. On Kent State U. campus in Ohio they have all black ones from when a prof. brought 6 from Canada to study. They are a black phase of the Red Fox squirrel.

Some years ago, while living up in Oregon, I had trouble with these critters getting into my bird feeders. So I began a search for the best squirrel proof feeder around. This same feeder is what I found.

Worked like a champ. Cost me $50, as I recall. Gave me hours of fun watching the squirrels go nuts sliding off to the ground, just like in the video. One squirrel, after many failures, began to chew on the top of the feeder. Didn't get him anywhere. . .but it was fun watching his failed determination to chew his way into the feeder.

I likely have photos stashed in my files? Here are a few that I have handy.
