Belen - Spanish for Bethlehem

I live in a small town in New Mexico who's name is Spanish for Bethlehem. In the middle of town is a nativity scene which has been there for years. Now, some "concerned citizen" has contacted the "Freedom from Religion" folks in Wisconsin to come and raise a stink. This person at this point is anonymous and for his or her own sake, I hope stays that way. This area was settled by Spaniards, and is INCREDIBLY Catholic. Many are still living on the original Spanish land grants given to their ancestors.
If this person is a newcomer, I don't believe they have a right to complain. It's kind of like the guy who builds his house next to the airport, and then tries to have the airport moved.
I'm a lot more upset than this message shows, and I'm a newcomer (relatively)too.

The Nativity depicts a historical moment, whether or not it has religious significance. It is of significance to all Christians not just Catholics.
You don't know that "this person" is a newcomer. So I think you need to calm down. The prob will just go away - because there probably is no problem.
Where has the info come from?

We have a similar "stink" going on locally.

For as long as I can remember, for the month of December, there has been a beautiful Nativity scene assembled on the County Courthouse square lawn. It is privately owned & assembled, with no public funds spent to have it there. Typical small-town America Holidays.

Lawsuits now are threatened & flying around to force removal. Local Wiccans & Muslim groups are protesting & an out of state "Freedom from Religion" / separation of Church & State group is leading the charge.

They don't seem to want to put up a display or anything supporting or furthering their own cause, & just seem doing this to get into print & annoy the Christian majority, I suppose.

Sad. These folks are such strident & outspoken wild-eyed radicals that the problem more than likely won't just "go away."

Such a pity if the problem doesn't go away. Because nothing stands still. If it doesn't go away then it will escalate - on a logarithmic scale. Going from argument to riot to war.
