Maui...friendly and mystery.
Here's some of the friendly puffer (nicknamed puppy fish). Also the third one is a mystery. I never could figure out what it was. I can't remember now what I was thinking it was since that was a few years ago and my memory won't go a month back much less 2 years. Anyway, if you guys could help me figure it out, I'd appreciated it. None of these are cropped but are edited.
Third one down looks like a juvenile rock-mover wrasse. A bit tricky as it's looking straight down, but the colors and the two 'antenna' on the front end match.

I don't know why that has hounded me so. I just saw it in my photos and hadn't remembered taking a shot like it. Thanks for the opinion/fact. :-)
Kevin,
Not sure it is a Halichoeres Semicinctus, it could also be one of the parrot family of fish. Have problem with the tail color and overall coloring of the fish from above. Still a very interesting view.

Yah, the body color is right, but the fins are not. Which could mean it's not a rock-mover, or it could mean that the coloration is a bit different from that to which I'm accustomed. Slight differences from region to region are not that unusual. Knowing that is why I suggested a Rock-Mover. I grant it's barely more than an guess :-)
One of the guys in my snorkel club said he thought it was a wrasse. I didn't even know he was there until I looked back at the pictures. I'd just never seen the antenae on fish so I thought it may be some kind of shrimp. I've never really seen any shrimp close up.
I have no idea,of coarse I'm just now learning a few different kinds myself, nice shots though, especially the first one. I have a couple of a puffer but could not get it to turn towards camera.
Here's a Rock Mover wrasse from the side. The Hawaiian version anyway.

That's it!!!!! Thank you, thank you. I've been trying to find out since our trip to either Maui or the Big Island which was around 2009. On those trips I was still having trouble with my vision and seeing through the mask and through the camera. The guy in my snorkel club said he thought it was a wrasse but we couldn't get a picture that looked enough like it to be sure, but that's it. Well, I can rest easy now that the mystery is solved. :-) :D
