That one is easy. We deposited a check in our bank a few weeks back and they did not make our money available to us for 10 days. Usually it isn't that long but it was an out-of-state personal check...as one for these lenses will likely be.

I suspect he'd also accept Walmart money transfer. I learned that is a good way to do this on my last camera sale.

I noticed the location is changed to "ND" - or North Dakota?

Yes.

There is nothing nefarious about this listing. It is all true as presented.

I too don't post my whereabouts with the avatar. There are some who visit this site that I fear might come after you if you disagree with them. No need to take a risk.

Yes, he lives in North Dakota and has a serious illness. Shame on those who attacked him.

I can't speak for others. I am not at all sure that this is a scam.

However when a seller is in hiding and he has three awesome Nikon's that are nearly all close to the most recent models in their class which would make them recent purchases and he attempts to sell them with no lens's and no other gear of any kind, then I have suspision enough to fear forking over a large sum of money.

Why did he buy all three if he has health problems?

Why is he in hiding?

Why is he waiting for ten days for a check to clear before sending it out?

He may be fine, but it just sounds too good to be true and my instincts are telling me to steer clear. It's not worth the risk to me.

I don't see a "smoking gun" and he can easily have an excuse for all of these. It's the totality of it all together for me.

Why not follow up on his request it a private message?

There may be reasons to not answer some of those here, including fear oh the unwarranted attacks.

The ten day hold on the check seems logical, however I assumed that long holds on checks stopped years ago when my own business allowed me to scan a check and the machine would tell me right away if the check was good. This was ten years ago. I would think that a bank would have better resources than I did back then.

I didn't think that I was attacking him in any way. I only meant to point out why I had reservations of handing over lots of money. I have looked over all my comments and I still don't see where I attacked anybody. Can you please point it out to me so that I don't do it again.

Who owns all three of these newer model camera's at the same time and then sells them all at the same time without any lens's? It seems to me to contradict his claim of getting rid of them for health reasons.

His location didn't just say "in hiding". It said something like, "a good hiding spot" or something like that.

I did PM him right after my first post. I won't comment on that because it was a "private message".

We had the 10 day hold applied by U.S. Bank a couple of weeks ago.

It annoyed me also but I found it was legal and routine for out of state personal checks over $5,000.

So now we deposit Electronicslly to Schwab and the money is available in minutes...up to $50,000. Banks aren't exactly up to date.

The question of why he owns them isn't relevant to the sale. Might own a shop like MT Shooter.

He didn't say he didn't have lenses. He just wasn't offering them in this email.

I mentioned to him that there is no need to say why is selling. KEH, Adorama, etc. never do so why should he? Preferring money to the item is a good enough reason.

ND is a pretty good place to hide. :-)

I agree that why he owns them would not be relevant to the sale, however it is relevant to my determination as to the legitimacy of the seller.

KEH and Adorama are in business to sell things. This is there reason why they are selling. The private seller don't have to give a reason why, but if he did, then it would help to ease a paranoid buyer of his fears of fraud ,deception or defective equipment.

You are a very trusting person. That's a good quality to have. Just be careful. I deal with people on a daily bases that are very trusting and they get taken advantage of and end up trying to recoup their losses.

Again, this may be an honest seller, but for me there are too many subtle questions. This adds up to a higher risk and needs to be approached with caution.

I do not care about the reason for selling. However, he owns the cameras and as such should specify what he wants for a selling price.

This site (to my knowledge) is not an auction site. This site caters to photographers. I do not care to start sending price bids back and forth like a bidding site.

Seller, just list the price you want and say you will entertain reasonable offers. If you are interested in bids, go to an appropriate site.

Ps are these USA bodies?

Good Luck

BTW, "in hiding" is the default location when you sign up here. Many may not know this, or know that they can go in and change it themselves.

Didn't look like he wanted an auction since he asked for PMs from those interested. I agree it is best to list an asking price. It saves both sides from wasting time and phone calls.
