New Nikon 24-70 mm with VR coming.

I have the present Nikon 24-70 mm, f2.8 lens without VR. I shoot a D7000 and a D800E but suffer from a tremor. I depend on the mass of these DSLRs and lenses to steady my shake. I have hardly used this lens because of the lack of VR, which really helps me. The new lens has changed the optics in addition to adding the VR.
My question is should I sell my 24-70 mm lens now to get highest value, or wait and see if the new one really performs better. My lens has less than 50 shots through it, virtually untouched by human hands, except for mine.
For your purpose it would seem that the VRII is essential. Nikon usually does not put out worse optics in a series than a previous lens, so IMHO I would sell the one you have now before the price drops when the new one comes out.
Life's to short. Go for it!

That's always the question: when to sell the old to buy the new. Generally speaking, prices for old gear do not rise. Another generality: Nikon does not replace great lenses with inferior ones.
Read all you can about the new lens. If there is something major you don't like, keep what you have. Otherwise, put it on ebay, and you'll have your money in a week.

You do need VR if you are not going to be using a tripod or a high ISO for a faster shutter speed.
Right now all we know about the new lens is that it is very expensive, I believe around $2,236. Like yours, the new lens is a professional lens with new coatings and a new optical formula plus the needed VR. If you have the money and persist on buying the lens you know what you have to do. Soon we will know of its optical abilities.
Tamron also makes a very nice similar optics with VR at a more reasonable price. If you are not going to enlarge to 20x30 often this Tamron lens could be a very good alternative for considerable less money.
BTW, the lens you have is exceptional, if not one the finest ever made. You will likely get a good price now or later. If you were to buy a Tamron or other you could lose the resale value. Although, Tamron is getting much better.
