Vivitar is generally a distributor that rebrands but does not make things. Your mileage may vary as they say.
I have a great Samyang fisheye lens that says Vivitar on the lens, but it is a Samyang product. Could say Rokinon or something else.
The name means little, and the Vivitar brand has changed over the years, not always for the best....
So, it can be OK, or sometimes not. The brand is questionable if you do not know the original manufacturer....
Hoya, B+W are more consistent with their offerings, even if they have low, middle and high end product ranges....
Vivitar is generally a distributor that rebrands b... (

You ain't never lied, especially when you say..."sometimes not". You are also correct in your comments about Hoya and B+W.

I have and use the Vivitar CPL - Does everything I need and affordable ....
FINALLY, I agree with Meister on something!
I too use a Vivitar CPL in a 77mm and fits 3 of my lenses.
I think I paid about $30 for it and it works great. As has been said, Vivitar doesn't actually make anything, so it's filters are probably as good as whoever makes them.
If your'e gonna make your living with a CPL then spend the money on a good one. But if your'e like most folks, get the Vivitar and spend your money where it really counts, like a really good camera!!
I can post a pic taken with my cheap little filter if you like?! ;-)

You're lucky. I try not to buy certain products based on luck. Lens filters would be one of those products.

As I recall, without looking - I believe the Vivitar is made in Japan - a good sign !

Vivitar makes many fine products....
Vivitar doesn't make any products at all.
They outsource everything... Either relabeling other peoples' products or, in a few cases, having products made to their specification.
Vivitar practically invented outsourcing, in fact.
So, that filter is probably actually made by Hoya or someone else.
