Verry nice. It puts the Colt in the context of it's use.

I actually own that model in a cherry wood presentation case I bought from Cabella's in Sidney Nebraska over 30 years ago. I also have a Walker .44 in the same style case as well. They still reside in my gun safe having never been fired.

I think that is a Confederate version of the Colt. It has a brass frame and not a steel one. I've got one that looks just like it. It's a .44 cal percussion revolver. Mine used a charge of about 40 grains of black powder and a .451 round ball. Just thought I'd mention it, OK?
Mine,s in a walnut case, too, and was bought over 50 years ago from Navy Arms. Still have it, but haven't shot in quite a few years.

hswader here..

Brass frames were common on pre 1850 Colts.

Very nice display and photograph. Interestingly, I have my great grandfather's .36 cal E. Whitney copy of the Colt, sometimes referred to as a "Navy Colt" but he was in the Calvary, Compane E, 29th NJ Volunteets. It is Whitney's "4th type" that has a wedge type loading latch at the front of the ram, similar to yours. The primary visual difference is that only the trigger guard is brass.
