I am currently running Windows 8.1 on a PC and am considering going to Windows 10. My concern is that in my Elements 11 I Have a lot of Topaz and Nik filters that I don't want to loose or reinstall. Also I have over 20,000 photos that I do not want to loose. So, if I upgrade to 10, will all this be be upgraded to 10 without any reinstallation?

Thanks for any advice!

I recently upgraded from 8.1 to (full blown) Windows 10 and I must say, I have not found any of my applications so far that do not run. It upgraded seamlessly and without a problem. I think Microsoft deserves a huge pat on the back for this one. It's bound to contain some bugs which I'm sure we'll hear about but that's how things get made right - right? They have improved Cortana from the 'tester builds' and she responds nicely too. Bottom line: ''so far, so good''.

All of my photos and Elements 10 with Topaz (which I don't use much anymore) were intact. Good luck with the upgrade, just be patient. It takes a while.

Do a Google search for "software compatibility with Windows 10" The link above is one of several sources of information and it states that if it (the software) works on Windows 7 or 8 it will almost certainly work on Windows 10. In addition, the new Operating System will notify you of programs that it cannot run (of course, this doesn't help once you have chosen to install it). Microsoft maintains a constantly updated list of incompatibility issues.

Finally, we're talking about major technology companies here. If there are issues, you can be certain they will be fixed. (The only issue is how long it might take).

Many of those having problems are the people who did not wait for the MS notice that Win10 was ready for their machine's configuration and did the upgrade manually.

Better to just wait until you get the notification that the upgrade is ready for you. I have done three machines by waiting, a Win7 Home Premium (64bit), a Win7 Pro (32bit) and a Win8.1 Home (64bit). Two went without a hitch. The Win7 Home Premium machine had a corrupted file that prevented any updates for the last few months and I haven't found the OEM disk to repair it. It ran upgrade once and failed, second time and terminated before done. Asked if I wanted to try again, said yes, it did a fresh download and ran all the way to completion, it works fine. It must have either repaired the corrupt file or worked around it. I put Clasic Shell's latest version for Win10 on all three and chose the Win7 look for everything.
The only real problem I have is the Nook reading app for Win8.1 is now sized wrong in its window and cuts off the right edge and bottom of pages. I contacted Barnes & Noble's NOOK support, not MS. They said they are aware of the problem, were sorry it happened and are working on a fix that they expect to put out as an update "soon". I have a Nook e-reader, a Nook HD+ tablet and Nook Study on a Win7 Pro machine, I can wait.
The Win7 Pro machine that has not been upgraded just hasn't gotten the notice yet, I will wait. I am going on the thought that the version compatable with it and its Gamer Class Video card will be along in time. (That video card gets an update from the company several times a year, last time was 10 days ago. And it is 4 years old, great follow up service.) It is an iBuyPower gamer I use for my PP work. I figured that if a machine could run 3D games in real time it would handle PP work. Who knows, I might suddenly want to play some games, I used to do the Aces Over *** and Star Wars flight simulator style games, maybe I will want to again.

I had to do the win 8.1 - 10 upgrade 2x, because of router connect issues (i have a 7 core processor setup & dual AC protocol wireless, a bit complicated for early win 10.) But LT 6 & PS Elements 13 are working fine, as far as I have tried using them.

Just finished it early this morning. Ha to give it disc space to install but no problems at all once I did that. First thing I did was run through my photo programs, Elements, Canon Pro,
Picasa etc. No problems encountered. Does take a while to download. One note, do not use the express install. Look on the lower left and customize your settings. So far I have had about 2 hours with Win10 and no problems. Obviously
haven't done everything but so far it is a winner.

IF you are properly backed up, i.e. you have at least one off-computer backup, you will not lose your pictures.

After upgrading my wife from Win7, everything worked except duplex printing. Had to go to Epson's web page and download the latest drivers. You might consider going to your graphics card maker's site as well, just in case.

Little niggly things may not work but they can all be fixed.

For the most part, all the major stuff, like photo apps, will emerge just fine after the upgrade.

Win10 is supposed to fully backward compatible with all previous windows versions. I just upgraded and all us working well. Just slight learning curve to find things, but it does seem be faster than my old win7. Only problem so far was somehow my Adobe CC lost my registration and started saying my trial was up and also reverted to earlier version. Adobe customer service talked me through a reinstall. All us well now call 1-800-833-6687 option 2 to start. No charge for help and very knowledgeable help in India of course. Did not lose any data or photos.

Win10 is supposed to fully backward compatible wit... (show quote)

That adobe problem is not just Win 10. It is Adobe, I have had it happen twice with Creative Cloud in the last month on a machine running Win7 Pro for nearly 4 years now. Had to get Adobe support and give them remote control to reset things. It is getting to be a pain, just happened again. I may just dump the CC, buy the stand alone LR6 and use it with PSE13 and PaintShopPro X7 (X8 is coming out? if it meshes with all the plugins I know I will dump CC)

upgraded win 7 pro when notified. Like other folks I first downloaded and iso file and burned it to disk for backup. Used magical jelly bean and copied all the info... just in case! When it finished loading I had no internet. Told me I had no ip address. Called for a tech but when I woke this a.m. it was working okay. Been good since. No problems with any programs. Hope everyone else has this success, win 10 looks like my win 7 pro desktop, so it was easy to use.

Yes. I have PSE 11, PS CC, LR and an entire dedicated hard drive for images. No issues with anything after upgrading to Win 10.

Remember to backup your date (photos,...)

Good luck with the upgrade

I have a Dell I660. Only 1yr old. It took only 45 mins. to download after I rec'd the message it was ready. The only problems I had was I could not reply to emails or inserts pics in emails on AOL.

I called AOL and they advised MS should have given companies longer to verify their programs would operate on WIN 10. They knew about all the problems (Tons of people complaining). They are working on the fix and he advised other companies are also trying to work out the bugs connected to WIN 10. My sister can not connect to the internet since she downloaded WIN 10. The tech advised for me to try every couple of days and it should be corrected soon.
