Is it GAS or is it real?

I can trade my D300s and D700 bodies with MD-10 grip for a D800 body / straight up, no cash. All of my glass is Nikkor FX and high end. Benefit is one body vs two to get the reach my D300s provides; downsides are slower burst rate and HUGE file sizes. Comments appreciated. (I can not afford a D810 at this juncture). I attached sample images, but my whole posting got moved to the Photo Gallery section. Thanks.

Is the D800 new?

No, but just 12k situations. Both of my current bodies are about 35k.

12K shutter actuations should be considered "new" on this type of body. Should be good for 200K's anyway.

Thanks, I knew that. What I'd like is some comments from fellow HHers concerning the prospect of making the swap or just staying with what I have. I am not feeling compelled to trade but maybe I am missing a positive attribute I have not considered. Thanks for any advice offered.

Foto, RUN don't walk to that trade!!!
Tomorrow your two cameras will be purely DOOR STOPS, no matter how GOOD they were yesterday!!!
Big file sizes are an absolute blessing, NOT a downside. Your logic is like saying that a million dollars takes up to much space in your safe, so you'll a thousand dollars instead. It's all about the potential, not the storage space. You can always shoot smaller files if you had to. ;-)

SS has very good points and I tend to agree, especially when I see how quickly my bodies depreciate. Plus storage and memory are pretty inexpensive.

I'd get a D750.

Of course. With that much money, you just buy a larger safe. :D

Some of my cameras have 24MP sensors, so going to 36MP wouldn't be a game changer for me. Over the years, going from 12 to 16 to 24 hasn't even been a ripple on my pond. Of course, I'm using a government surplus Cray computer, so speed is not an issue. :D

I may go that direction. 24MP seems like more than enough and I can probably live with with max 1/4000 shutter. Thanks.

Anticipate future needs. I print a lot of large images, and having more megapixels is important to me. If there is a chance that you will want to print large in the future, go for the upgrade.

Agree. The trend in consumer printers is larger format. NEW Espon P800 prints 17' by however long with roller. Bigger is better with prints.
