I know that the bee is out of focus and a little fuzzy from motion blur, and I caught it by accident, but it is my first capture of a flying insect. Going out to try getting some more!

I like the shot and as far as blur it's not that bad, the flower is perfect and well lit. Dude your hooked on flying bugs now , face it.

Keep shooting! Most of us have similar results when shooting BIFs (bugs in flight). This is why you will find very, very few BIFs on this forum.

My girlfriend has named this shot 'the flying bee butt pic'. She laughed sweetly at me because I was so excited about it. Thank you all for the encouragement! :thumbup: I am already trying to rig up a better set up to freeze frame these fast flying buggers. ;)

An interesting note about speedlights is that the manual "power" settings (1/1, 1/2, 1/4, 1/8, 1/16, etc.) concern flash duration (length), not light quantity. As an example, 1/2 power may equate to 1/500-sec flash duration, and 1/8 power may equate to 1/10,000-sec flash duration.

This means that:
1.) A more powerful speedlight (higher Guide Number) has a much faster recycle time, especially at shorter flash durations; and
2.) A speedlight set closer to subject will allow a shorter flash duration for proper exposure;
3.) Very short flash durations can "freeze" insect and hummingbird wings, inflight.

Got it! Thank you. And I do have one question.. If I use two Yongnuo 565EX speedlights, one on the hot shoe and one remote, to add more light for a shorter flash duration, should I use the optical slave or the radio slave to get the flashes to fire at exactly the same time, or maybe it doesn't make a difference? I can't find any information about how close the firing speed of the slave is from the main flash from the two different triggering options. Maybe they are both so close it doesn't matter.

This is beyond my practical experience, but I suspect that triggering one speedlight from another is the speed of light, with very little electronic delay.

Thank you, Nikonian72. Maybe I will post that question in the Main discussion area tomorrow. It may end up being more useless information to clutter up my brain, but maybe I will learn something totally new from the members. It's amazing how I can ask or follow one question and then I end up learning about related things in the responses here on this web site.

Noble sentiment.
Unfortunately, the Hog has its share of both trolls and verbose know-it-alls, who can go on, paragraph, after paragraph, after paragraph, ad nauseum. Goferit! But be forewarned.

I enjoy reading an occasional comment or series of comments to my girlfriend. We laugh and have a good time with it now! Where do these people come from??? I went to the Attic one time, that was enough! UHH may have some "interesting" members, but it is still the best site I've found for fast, accurate information.
