1/80, 896mm, hand held - you are a wizard. And a great shot into the bargain. Don't ever use a tripod - you might get jitter. lol

Thank you, Delderby. No, I don't use a tripod (too confining). I do take several shots, so that at least one will turn out OK. I did lean against the porch post this morning for my moon shots.

All of your hand-held telephoto shots are always so sharp. You are one of the treasures of the UHH! Would you possibly share your technique with the rest of us?

One little story....my dear departed Mother-in-law was a wonderful lady. She would see a moon like in your photo and say that it is not going to rain....because the (visible) moon is canted in such a way that it would hold water. If the moon is canted in such a way that it would not hold water, it would rain.

Thank you, Bob. The Canon 1.4 III will auto focus (fast) with the Canon 7D Mk2 camera.

The Canon 100-400 II telephoto zoom lens has 'special' multiple lens coatings that greatly increase the photo contrast, BIPSTER.

Thank you very much, Dabbe. I use a 'Barska' pistol-grip handle which attaches to my lens collar. This really helps to steady my shot.
Your late Mother-In-Law may be right about that.

Regis.
Partial moon phases are fun to capture. You have captured this one very well. Thanks for sharing.

Thank you, Phil. Partial and half moon phases show more detail than the full moon.
I have the advantage of living in an area (north Idaho) where the night skies are clear, dry and devoid of harsh city light glare. I find the best time to photograph the moon is between midnight and 4:00am, especially if the moon is almost overhead.
