XUME filter holder

Hi All

I have seen an ad for a XUME Filter holder. This is a 2 piece item. Each piece is magnetized. The first piece screws onto the front of the lens. A filter is screwed onto the 2nd piece. When you want to attach the filter to the lens you simply put the 2 pieces together and they stay in position due to the magnets. No time-consuming screwing. Does anyone have any experience with these? Thanks Hal

I used them for a while about year and half. I found the magnets were not strong enough to hold the filters on for my style of on the go shooting . also it moves the filter out a little to far on wide angle lens which causes vignette when set to a 12 - 16 range. concept is great just wished I did not loose 2 polarizer and a neutral density. maybe version two for me will be stronger

Have one for my 72mm Canon 500D close-up attachment. This size is not strong enough to keep that heavy filter secure, falls off at a slight jiggle. Might be OK with say a 58mm but haven't tried one that size.

I've been using them for about a year now. I've had no problems. I shoot almost exclusively off a tripod, so I haven't put them through a session where I am moving around rapidly between shots, but otherwise have found them very effective.

After seeing Jerry's comments regarding XUME some time back, I ordered the beginner set. While I was still getting use to having something unsecured on my lens, I knocked my CPL off twice. Fortunately, it is well built and did not crack. I do like the convenience of quickly changing filters. Looking back, I wish I had bought a step up adapter and purchased a larger diameter xume set as well as filters as you do get vignetting when shooting 24-30 or so. Otherwise, I like the set and am happy I bought them. Dave

I've had a set for about a month and love them. Also use one for my lens cap. I just shook a lens vigorously to check, and no detachment. I also bumped the filter strongly with my hand, and it did not dislodge. They seem strong to me and actually take a bit of effort to remove. Maybe the latest versions are stronger. Yet to lose my lens cap which is on all the time.

I use them on several lenses that take 58 mm filters. Makes swapping filters a breeze. Also very good for really dark neutral density filters, just focus and then add the filter. To check for vignetting try two regular filters on your lens.
