I need some advice and opinions on what lens to keep. I just got a Nikon D-750 and I am thrilled, upgraded from a D-7000 DX. However i am very confused on what all around lens to keep. The 24-120 or 28-300 for my traveling. I own the 70-300 that I used with my dx camera and like it. However now that I have other choices I am a little confused. With my d-7000 I used the 18-200 and 17-55 2.8 dx (that I am selling now), as a walk all around lens and used my 70-300 when I need it. I want to keep the one that will give me the best IQ. I will appreciate your comment. Thanks

What version of the 24-120 ? If the latest (fixed F4 aperture) I'd say keep that one

I have owned the 28-300 for a number of years and found it to be a terrific lens. The range is just about perfect and the quality is well within acceptable to me.

I'd agree that the range the 28-300 offers makes it a great choice. Your IQ should be satisfactory with any of the choices you list. Personally if I can't see the difference without a loupe the IQ is fine.

I, too, recently went over to the D750, adding a Nikon system to my Canon group. I'm loving the D750. I carry my 28-300 wherever I go. It's not a "professional," waterproof lens, but I love the flexibility. IQ is much better than I expected from a zoom. A bit heavy, the 28-300 serves me well as a great walk-around lens. I'm still playing, but expect my 24mm or 50mm primes (1.4s) will get me through any low light situations. I'm not a pro; just like to take pictures of landscapes and buildings. I also find my new 16-35 is a great option. I've never used the 24-120, but it sounds like a great option as well as a walk-around lens. After all, if you need to get closer, feet usually work well with little overhead cost. I've learned so far that the Nikkor lenses are all great and choosing one is really a function of what you want to shoot. Best of luck and have fun.

Yes my 24-120 f4 is the latest version. I just dont want to compromise quality, I am not a professional photographer but that is very important to me. I already own the 70-300 VR wich is a decent lens. But if the 28-300 is better glass I will keep that one. I have research several blogs trying to find an answer but some love the 24-120 and others love the 28-300. I guess I have to walk around with both lenses and test them. In the future I will change the 70-300 with the 70-200 1.4 that almost everybody love, I have my 50mm 1.8 when light is an issue and thinking on a 20 mm for my wide angle. Thanks to all for your reply!

I have used both the 28-300 and the 24-120. Both are good but I think the 24-120 is slightly better.

Since you already have them, the 24-120 f4 and the 70-300 would be a good combination, no need to get a 28-300.

Your field of view will be wider than it was on the dx camera.

I shoot the D810 and the D700. I like the 70-300 vr because it seems and has been reported that it focuses faster than the 28-300 and it is very good up to about 270mm. For outside in decent lighting that 70-300 coupled with my 24-85vr does a really fine job. In low light I do turn to using my 2.8 lenses. Yesterday I got to try the 28-300 and thought it did a nice really nice job, but it did seem to focus a little slower than my 70-300. For me upgrading to the 24-120 vr and 28-300 doesn't seem to be worth the added cost. Hope this helps. Leon

What you need to do is take each lens out separately, give your self an assignment, shoot only with that lens, then the next day shoot with another lens, feel the balance, the weight in your hands, your 750 is similar in size to your 7000, the 750 slightly fatter. Look at your favorite photo's you have taken in the past, what lens did you take it with? The 24-120 will be now wider at the 24 end because it is no longer on the 7000, but you will notice the lens is not as far reaching as it was, because on the 7000 it went to 180 but now only goes to 120, your 28-300 will give you more reach with the 750. Only you will know what lenses to keep. My 750 was great right out of the box, you will see a difference in enlargements or cropping your photo's with the full frame 750. Good choice on your part. Good luck and good shooting.

For a walk around lens I use the 28-300. It does a nice job on everything I put it through. I have had it on my D300s and now on the D600.

Go sit in your yard and play with all of them. Pick things that don't move like flowers and bird houses and then go in and compare them. I think for a walk around lens you will be very happy with the 28-300.:)

Romy, I also have a DX D7000 and the D750 with a 28-300. But I find the 28-300 to be a tad heavy as a walk-around lens. I am thinking along the lines of an 18-35 or the 24-70 or the 24-85 for the D750. My concern with the 18-35 is too much distortion near the 18mm end of the lens.
What are your thoughts on these 3 lenses ?
Anyone else is welcome to chime in.
Thanks, -FiddleMaker

I like the 28-300 for a walk-around.
Question for you - inasmuch as all of your lenses will work with the D750, I hope you are not disposing of some because you think they will not "work" with the 750???

24-120 for best IQ. Not even a close decision as far as I am concerned.
