Why would we want to forget? It is part of our history. We can learn from our mistakes if we have them around to look back on.

Maybe if it was your family that was so uprooted you would think a little different. If history was real bad why does is needed to be preserved? (Flags , etc ) Learn & move on but take down the ugly reminders .

I think they need both. Are we going to take our flag down because of World War II? My Grandfather told me once while carving and doing it wrong, that you learn from your mistakes! Is that true for most of us, I think yes. But I guess I could be wrong.
