Just wondering if anyone has yet purchased the Nikon 16-80 mm 2.8-4E lens. I notice that the lens pouch is not listed as part of "What's In The Box". I thought at $1069 it should have been included.

BandH.com does not include a case. You might like to look at these reviews:

Why spend so much money in that new lens when there are so many excellent "walk around" lenses for less?
Nikon has a myriad of kit lenses that have excellent quality beginning with the old 18-70 f3.5-4.5 AFS many of them in excellent condition sold at a bargain price in the second hand market. The 18-140 is a great lens from what I have read, never used one, at a more reasonable price.
Use your money wisely!

I would seriously consider the Nikon 24-85mm f/3.5-4.5 VR. Excellent walk around lens for $600 new. It's a very sharp lens.

Love the 18-140. Got it refurbed for $245. It's on my D3300 most of the time.

The point of a walk around lens is that it is on the camera and you need no other lens with you. Why would you need a case?

Putting it in a case defeats its purpose.

A pouch is nice, but if it's on your camera, it's pretty much useless!

I second the suggestion of the Nikon 24-85mm f3.5-4.5 VR. It is/was a lens sold as part of a D600 kit. I bought one from someone who had a D600 kit and didn't want it. I got mine for $400 about a year ago and use it as my walk around lens on my D800E. I am pretty picky about sharpness, and this lens is really very good. It focuses fast and the distortion it has is easily corrected in LR or PS. There are other options, but this lens is worth considering.

Why would you need a case? Maybe to store the lens in when using another, and I don't mean in the field. For the price of this lens it should include a case.

What if it's off the camera?

I have the 24-85 and find it very sharp. In fact, it seems sharper to me than my 24mm F2.8 and 50mm F1.8 primes! I found it superior in sharpness to a 24-70 F2.8 I borrowed although VR may have had something to do with that. It's a great walk around lens on a full frame body but the added range of the 16-80 might be better on a crop sensor. IMHO the king daddy walk around lenses are the 28-300 on full frame and 18-300 on crop sensor bodies.

Then, of course, its a wonderful thing to have. In my case, the lenses I use a lot are in one camera bag or another, with the rest stored in Pelican cases! Every once in a while, they go the cheap way and don't include accessories that are useful and needed. For example, one used to have to buy lens hoods separately when, at least I believe, they are essential accessories!

Exactly, but when you're charging over a grand for a lense , I think Nikon can include the pouch. Hell I have the 50mm f/1.8, a $225 lense and it came with a pouch.
