Re: 'BEST 'P & S' >$2000'
Dear 'Pro(s)'...
Is my 'thinking' logical.? --- Please COMMENT and Specify WHICH camera YOU would choose; ...telling WHY.
QUESTION:
How to GET the best point-and-shoot camera in the world; for >$2000
ANSWER(s):
1. Buy it out-right, with no configurable settings/buttons.
...OR,
2. Buy the cheapest under $2000 configurable camera or phone, and 'Permanently-set' its various settings to ones that will produce the BEST image, with the Lens currently attached EVERY time you pick up the currently 'quasi-sleeping-camera'; ...Whether the subject is a hummingbird outside the open window of your bedroom; ...Or the laughing faces of your grandchildren playing in the ocean's surf ...or fast-swinging on their swings. --- --- i want to aim and zoom (manually preferably); ...and the camera does everything else, 'instantaneously'.

How to get the best P&S camera (for) >$2000
Actually your logic may not be correct...because ">" is the symbol for Greater Than. "<" is the sign for Less Than. I'm a curmudgeon too. Your search is the proverbial one for the single pill that cures all diseases.

No camera, at any price, will deliver what you are seeking. It is not the camera, but the photographer that really matters.
You are a victim of unrealistic expectations.

NO! Many remain the way you set them!
Get the Lumix FZ1000.
Alas, even UHH people become Pretty Un-ugley at times and just have fun.
Perhaps the question was Less than $200 not $2000!! Now we are talking refurb. My Sony HX50v and the Canon SX50 fall into this category. Great cameras both. I went with the Sony because it fits in my Blue Jeans and impresses the ladies.
I agree with both the FZ1000 and the SX50. Both are a lot of camera for the money. You can also look at the new Canon at $1,000 it should get your attention.
In fact, the Lytro Illum light field camera was on sale two days ago at B&H. Regular price I think around $1,300 the sale price was $800 or so. This camera has a low megapixel image, but completely unique technology. You just point and shoot wherever you want. When you view the image afterwards you can actually decide which part of the image you want to be in focus. Really whacky stuff. Might be what you want and might not, but maybe you can take a look.
Just in case your real budget is under $200 (not $2,000) by interesting coincidence, this manufacturer has two entry level versions that are frequently on sale at either Groupon or Woot. Both can be had for a few hundred bucks or less.
I'm not endorsing this product, but it might be what you're looking for. Best of luck!
