A friend just bought a 2015 Hyundai Sonata. There is no spare tire and no jack. He had to look on ebay and buy tire and tools.

I wouldn't buy a car without a jack and spare.

I thought I heard that some vehicles are coming with a can to inflate the tire enough to use for a temp. I'll look for that.

I think it got one of those, but if a tire blows out at speed, that goo may not do any good.

This is what he bought.

I guess it's time to weigh the odds that in the event you end up with a totally useless tire, do you make the purchase.

We're driving about 10,000 miles per year and have AAA. Not free, but a good service.

The front and rear tires on my car are different size and are also asymmetrical, meaning that it would have two carry four spares. There isn't any room for even one... so they give you a can of tire inflator and patching compound. There is space in the trunk for a briefcase, Oh, well... toys, toys.

Be careful! Next post could contain something regarding the political persuasion of tow truck drivers or car manufacturers!

Too early for that. Actually no time is good!

My toy is set up the same, but it has a spare. Not recommended for road course rally driving, but will get you home. :D

The Corvette went that way a few years ago.

Some of the Vettes have had them as an option since about 1995.

some of the younger folks don't wanna or don't know how to change a tire. some of us older folks aren't able to anymore.

Growing trend over here as well. 2 reasons.

a) We often get an aerosol of gloop and compressed air, and if that doesn't repair it the tyre is not worth repairing (when it works).

b) This saves weight, so when the car is tested on the standard EU economy cycle (a theoretical test that is the same for all manufacturers) a higher mpg might be achieved.

Note that in practice no one gets close to the theoretical figure, but at least it gives a comparison for all vehicles.
