Hitchbot killed in U.S.

Hitchbot is, or rather, was a robot built in Toronto and sent out alone across the country to see how people respond to technology. The little robot successfully hitchiked across all of Canada safely. Afterwards, it was then sent over to Europe where it travelled across Germany, the Netherlands and several other countries without any problem.
Following its European vacation it was sent on its journey across the United States where he was tragically destroyed in Philadelphia, ironically referred to as the "City of Brotherly Love."
The little robot managed to travel for almost a year across Canada and all of Europe but couldnt even make it more than two weeks in America before vandals destroyed it.

R.I.P. little robot R.I.P.

If we can't keep our citizens safe you can't expect us to keep a visiting robot safe. Now if he was armed with a AK-47 he would blend into the surroundings and would be left in peace.

It *IS* Philly...Home of the WORST sports fans in the world!!!
Just look at how the Eagle fans treated Santa when he came to a game...the record is clear on how rough they are - and think themselves..."cool" because of it. IDIOTS.

It obviously wasn't a black robot killed by a white guy because I didn't hear about it through our liberal media nor did I hear Obama whine about it.

I'm surprised you haven't brought up that Cecil the lion was murdered by an American dentist and that everybody in the U.S. is happy the lion is dead (this is hyperbole before somebody gets their panties in a bunch). Or are you only mourning the low-tech mechanical device because it was built in Canada?

No, I don't really care where it was built. I was reflecting on what NBC and others said about it and todays society.
Sure it was low-tech but the fact that people related to it in so many personal and varied ways is quite astonishing.

Whatever the case may be, it was the deed of some thoughtless individual(s). It is a shame that it happened here. It is no refection that the few selfish people give the rest of the world the impression that we are all non caring folk. That is simply not the case. It could nave easily have happened anywhere.

It appears that it was low tech. To use an empty five gallon grout bucket for a body tells me that the builders were thinkers and are an asset to their community. The founders of this country (the USA) had this trait. We (my generation) had it also. It seems that the generation that follows us does not deem it necessary to live in this society. As long as everything is given to them just for applying for it is coming to an end. There is no such thing as a "Free Lunch". We may not see it in our life time but some where in the lunch line someone is going to have to pay ... or go hungry ... Enough for this rant .... Rodzilla

I'm afraid Hitchbot didn't have sufficient AI to stay away from Philly
I'd have also recommended staying out of Detroit, San Francisco, Down Town NYC, and about 90 other cities.

I wouldn't want to be a policeman in Philadelphia. It seems that many of the people there just seem to have destruction built into them, and the police have to deal with it every day. What did that little robot ever do to anyone in Philadelphia that it had to be viciously destroyed by some evil ignoramus who had nothing better to do than show the world the worst side of this country?

Too bad there wasn't some sort of secure recording video device in that thing. It would have been interesting to see who the lowlife was that broke it.
