EXIF data in flickr

I post a lot of images to flickr [ for them that cares, my page is at http://www.flickr.com/photos/samyaffespix/ ]. I process my raw images into .psd files (PS 5.1), and then save them as .jpg files to be uploaded to flickr.

Once they get there, one can click on "Show EXIF" and a lot of data is there, but not camera, lens, exposure, ISO, etc. All of that info appears in other folks' images.

Soo, the question (finally) is what do I have to do to make those bits of data available on flickr?

What editing program do you use to process and save the image files?

Don't use square brackets in your posts. It screws things up for everyone who uses "Quote Reply."

As you can see, parentheses are safe and more appropriate to boot.

Thanks. I had been wondering why quote didn't work well sometimes.

Has your question been answered? How much of your work, which I really like, is pure photography, how much is photoshop?
Have not been active on Flickr for a long time, everything has changed. Maybe, if you use too much photoshop, you loose the original data? I am interested in your camera and lens, thanks.

There is a setting inside YOUR processing program. You must have a check box "unselected". I had that problem for a while too. Sure enough I had unselected a box in my LightRoom preferences.

Check your preferences for the program you are using to process your RAW files.

I noticed that when viewing your flickr images the naming comes up as like (_DSC1470-copy-as-Smart-Object-1-A-1) and not with a file name like (my flower). Leads me to wonder how you are posting. I also post to flickr and my camera data etc. shows up fine. I don't use that step from RAW to PSD file. Your EXIF data also does not show any camera related info. It only shows Photoshop info. Maybe that intermediate step conversion to PSD is striping the camera data from the file. Try posting a RAW to JPG file and skip the PSD portion. See if that works. Also, Depending on how you process your RAW file, the export function for Raw usually has a choice of keeping or stripping the Camera/EXIF data before you convert it. If that is checked, You will loose the cameras meta data. Hope this helps. Post it if in works. Good Luck.

Before posting, check that the image actually has the EXIF data in it that you are assuming it does. Pick up an EXIF editor like EXIFTOOL and PYEXIFTOOLGUI and you can view and edit all the exif info the image contains.

It is possible that your photo processing program is stripping out the EXIF data on export, so your uploaded images end up not containing the EXIF info.

In my experience PP disables the Exif.

I use Lightroom, Photoshop, and Topaz plugins for all my post processing work, and exif is fully retained, on my originals, edited versions and exported versions. You might want to look thru your PP program and make sure you are not stripping out EXIF on export.

Look at my flickr stream and you can see the data that is kept in EXIF easily.

Edit: I also used Aperture & PSE for a few years, always had all the EXIF in exported/finished images.

If you are not getting EXIF in your exports/finished photos look to your software as to why - you may have it setup to remove EXIF info, or portions of it.

Thanks for your kind words. Since I shoot 100% RAW, there's almost always a bit of contrast & saturation added. Every once in a while, there's a LOT of contrast and saturation added, globally and selectively. And I feel free to crop, on occasion severely. So there's always a little photoshop, and sometimes a lot.

Since 11/14 I've been using a d810, a 70-200 f/4.0 VR Nikkor, and I use a 105mm f/2.8 D micro Nikkor a great deal. I have some other older lenses that get some use here & there as well.

Thanks, I think I've got it. You made me go back, and I found the data in the .psd files but not the .jpg files. Then I went to create another .jpg from a .psd & found an option for saving EXIF data which had been set to only Copyright & Contact info, but can be reset to all. PROBLEM SOLVED! As usual, it was user error.

thanks to all

Glad you've got the answer to your EXIF question Sam; I like to look at that information often as well. I'll just comment on your photos. They're really good.

I did notice the "_DSC1470-copy-as-Smart-Object-1-A-1" as mentioned above by frankie c, etc, where you could have a title. For any flickr photo I publish as "public" nowadays, I try to include a title and even a description, if I think it's helpful. I figure if I want somebody to take a moment of their time to look at my photo after they've been attracted by the thumbnail, then I can take a few seconds to tell them something about it. Wish I had done that right from the start, because I have many photos there without any type of description or explanation.

I looked through & liked your Yosemite album, which brought back memories from my visits. I saw several photos where I wondered "which formation is that?". Didn't look at any other albums, so maybe this was an exception.
