Since the 1920's - articles and announcement in publications such as Popular Mechanics and Popular Science have trumpeted loudly - that ..."THIS" is the one that will be the practical solution.
NONE have ever been successful. And - I am not sure that I understand all of the reasons, but, there are a few I am sure.
1. Cost - 'nuff said?
2.No - infrastructure support is prepared to handle them. I you think the issue of privately owned drones is a problem for commercial aircraft now - what do you suppose the situation will look like if every family decides that they want to be "The Jetsons"? How could we have air traffic control even resembling the current system? I can't imagine the manpower and electronics required...
3.Political climate - someone is going to want either govt grants/funding/assistance - or tax breaks and this would get mired up in the horse manure that IS Washington D.C.
I love the idealism of the concept. And - we do have to dream big, but I am afraid that my analysis says the current consumer is more 2 dimensional thinking - when it comes to everyday, self-directed transportation.

Just too cool Michael.
That would be too cool for sure. Sounds expensive but in another 50 years, who knows? This may be the vehicle of choice.
Chris
200 MPH?
Hell, driving in L.A. I'd be happy with 50 MPH!

A very good point Chris. Technology comes down it price over time.
What bothers me, though, is that there are NO yellow lines in the air. There are a lot of really bad drivers on the roads, what in the world would happen if they ever became airborne?
