May I get some help from fellow hoggers,

I have a Canon 600d, ie 3ti. which i find for my needs to be fine, also a 70x300 is usm lens, not the L version, do you think if i had a 1.4 of 2.0 extender. i would have any good improvement.in my zoom. or would it not be a good idea?
at present i get around 460mm from my lens, and if i had say the 1.4 ex. i think i would get around 640mm which for bird photos would be much better, any comments please, Thanks.

ANY TC on that lens will be a big disappointment. You would be much better off moving closer and/or cropping in post processing and using well applied pixel enlargement techniques/software to preserve image quality. At 300mm and cropping you should also be using good support/stabilization.

I don't believe that any of Canons teleconverters will work on that lens. The Canon 1.4x is designed for use with a lens that is at least an f/4 lens or faster. The 2x is designed for a lens that is f/2.8 or faster but will work on a few prime lenses that are f/4 such as the 500 and 600mm f/4. But Canons zoom lenses that have a variable aperture such as the 70-300mm f/4.5-f/5.6 lens is not designed to work with Canons teleconverters. Although, if you think you can live with manual focus and the loss of one stop of light, you could use it. But it's very difficult to get your birds in focus manually. Trust me!
