Developing and Mounting Stereo slide film

I recently inherited (or will inherit when probate is through) a share of my father's cameras. My brother and I are going through them to determine which we want to keep and which to sell, and who gets which ones. There are two stereo cameras that we are trying out. We both know that there are now few places to get slide film developed and even fewer places to get the film mounted on the stereo mounts. I did already search online for places that will do this and found a few. Are there any UHH members that have any experience with stereo film cameras that can make recommendations or suggestions for us, in particular a place that you recommend to send the film to for processing and mounting?

A second part of the question - we also have all of the stereo slides that my dad already took. They are absolutely gorgeous photos, many of them family vacation photos with a lot of sentimental value to us. We'd like to somehow convert them to 2D digital images to share with the whole family because as stereo slides, you have to use the viewers to see them and only one person can look at a time. Any thoughts on how to digitize these? Should we scan one half of the slides or what? I can't even begin to figure out how to handle it.

My sister and I just went through hundreds if not thousands of stereo slides my father left us. We chose a little over 100 slides we'd like to make digital copies of and maybe print. So the link above is what we are going to try. We are going to see each other in one month and then cull through the slides we put in the keeper box and decide if we want them all or to cut a few of them out.

Dwaynes in Kansas is good. Samy's in Santa Barbara, CA is better

You can also develop it yourself. It is not that difficult.

As far as mounting. Are you projecting them? If not, then there is no need for mounting them.

Mounting two slides taken with a stereo camera next to each other for stereo viewing. A stereo camera camera has two lenses set apart like the human eyes in oder to create a 3D image. A stereo viewer is needed to view it in 3D.

I'll be. Never heard of one of them. Did see the picture of a slide viewer in the post above but I never saw one of them either. Just remember the old slide viewer for one slide. You know, I wish I had one of those old viewer's. Starting to use my med format camera with slide file and one of those things could be handy! Have a viewing table and a loupe and don't care for it.

thank you for the reply!

Thanks for the suggested places, I will check them out.

The slides have to be mounted, otherwise you won't be able to see the stereo effect.

Attached is a photo of one of my dad's stereo cameras and one of his viewers. He also has a Kodak stereo camera. These cameras use regular slide film, but they are mounted in a dual slide mount. Very few places in the US to get this mounting done. Anyhow, when you look at the stereo slides in the viewer, they are absolutely gorgeous. You can see dimension. We have boxes and boxes of slides from trips to the Grand Canyon (you would be in awe of those slides and the depth), Yellowstone, Grand Tetons, etc. My dad loved to travel "out west" every summer.

Not only do my siblings and I have to figure out what to do with these stereo cameras (we'll be keeping them after we figure out how to use them), but we have to figure out what to do with the ton of slides my dad has of our childhood trips.

You also may want to try APUG.org for information on the camera and mounting. It is a film only site with vast amounts of information

It's appropriate that this topic came up at this time. I just picked this camera up yesterday. I won it in an auction that took place over the weekend. Now I have to figure out how to use it and get films developed and mounted. I have seen stereo viewers on Ebay. It seems to work ok: shutters, irises, film winder, all the knobs and dials. I opened the back to get a look inside. Turns out there is a roll of film that was left in it. I'm sure what is on the take-up reel is ruined but there still appears to be some shots left on what's still in the cassette. I'll have to finish it off and see about having it processed.

I received the same camera along with the viewer and hundreds of stereo slides that I'm looking into getting scanned. I have a slide scanner that works great for regular 35mm but haven't tried any stereo slides. My biggest problem is that I can't see stereo (or 3D) so I haven't been in a big rush to have it done.

Yep, that's my dad's other camera!

Given the cost of film and processing and mounting, you may want to use the partially used roll of film that was left in it to practice loading and unloading.

Anyhow, you should be able to find a good viewer, they are not that expensive. Watch for "stereo viewer" auctions. Kodak made one, Wollensack, TDC. Some are battery operated, I have one that has a power cord.

Here's what I found for mounting:

Should have added that I found the manual for the Kodak stereo camera here:
