I am having a lot of trouble with my lighting in photos. I took this photo at around 8am. Could some one tell me what I am doing wrong? What setting's should I use?

I can't tell you whats good for you but I can tell what I do and maybe it will work for you. I shoot in manual mode using spot metering and very low ISO and usually overexpose by 1/3 to 1 stop depending on the light situation. My colors are more vibrant. I seldom PP and only to crop or adjust my brightness alittle. I had lighting problems when I first got my camera but the folks here help me learn how to photograph on manual and it has made a world of difference in my colors. I took this photo at 8:07AM yesterday morning and overexposed by 2/3 stops.
I never use man. I just pray I can learn how to do this.
Thank you for letting me know.

If you never use manual, look no further. There is o help to be given as your camera does everything. The shots are correct as general exposure goes.
Iyou want something different change your mode to something else like A-Mode (or AV if Canon)...
You are step two of this vulgarization tutorial...

Carol, I don't know what kind of camera you have. So I really can help you much. I do know that learning Manual for me was a little scary at first. But practice makes perfect and now I seldom shoot anything but manual. Let the folks here know what kind of camera you have and they will help you.

Carol, looks like you have a few issues here. First, both pictures appear out of focus. Perhaps the camera was accidentally left on manual focus. Second, the exposure for the first picture is off. Too light for my taste. If you understand histograms, dial down you exposure accordingly. Otherwise, reduce it by 2/3 stop in two more exposures. Stick to automatic exposure and focus until you have more experience. Third, neither picture has much composition. Neither picture has anything compelling about it.
Hope this helps and I would be glad to provide more specific information if you wish.
I have a Nikon D5100. I have not had it long. Any help i would appreciate.
Thank you, Carol
