You just have to appreciate this one. Young people forget that we old people had a career before we retired......
----------------
Charley, the new retiree-greeter at Wal-Mart, just couldn't seem to get to work on time. Every day he was 5, 10, 15 minutes late.
But he was a good worker, really tidy, clean-shaven, sharp-minded.
He was a real credit to the company and obviously demonstrating their "Older Person Friendly" policies.
One day the boss called him into the office for a talk.
"Charley, I have to tell you, I like your work ethic, you do a bang-up job when you finally get here; but your being late so often is quite bothersome."
"Yes, I know boss, and I am working on it."
"Well good, you are a team player. That's what I like to hear.
Yes sir, I understand your concern and Ill try harder.
Seeming puzzled, the manager went on to comment,
It's odd, though, you're coming in late. I know you're retired from the Armed Forces.
What did they say to you there if you showed up in the morning so late and so often?"
The old man looked down at the floor, smiled, chuckled quietly, then said with a grin,
"They usually saluted and said,
Good morning, Admiral, can I get your coffee, Sir?
That's a good one ....but obviously one of them trick stories..... :XD:

An oldie but still makes me chuckle as it reminds me of my cousin

Having spent 20 years in the Navy, I feel fairly sure if the guy made it to Admiral, he would NEVER be late for work.
Maybe he was a an Admiral in arrears and not a Rear Admiral!
I retire in 5 months, I hope his position is open, thank you for shopping? Paper or plastic, would the little fella like a sticker, I think my lingo is right?
I just have to work on getting out of my PJ s, (no alarm clock at 4:45 AM)
I know that is just a joke. But I live in a retirement community, and 6 houses down is a retired one star. Every kind of occupation and education level exists here in the 1,000 plus homes, and I see PhD's all over the place doing menial stuff just to stay busy.

Absolutely! I did have to forward this to my brother, the soon-to-be-retired Colonel... Maybe he has another career coming!
A very good one, I like it.

It's a funny story - - one of the 'gotcha' variety - - but Bob is correct.
Woe be it unto the junior officer or other invited participant who is not seated and ready 5 minutes BEFORE the Flag officer arrives.
Most of the O7 and above have exec officers whose job it is to keep the General/Admiral on schedule.
