With Windows 10 release date set for July 29th, I was wondering if anyone has tried the trial version yet? Windows 7, 8 and 8.1, are all available for the free upgrade to Windows 10 up to a year after the release date.
The information available on Windows 10, seems to indicate a more user friendly operating system, but they said that with the release of Windows 8.

Not really a Windowz guy, but certainly since MS is already end of support for 7, I'd upgrade that. If I were on 8, I may want to make sure this is not another "Me" or "Vista" fiasco before jumping on board.

Don't know about W-10... but I want my money back on Windows-ME, Windows-Vista. I still cry over my now decease XP, she was beloved by many. My Windows 8 took 2 hours to upgrade my W-7 only to tell me at the end that it could not complete ?? So there it is... unused. At least I know where to and how to do things in W-7...

W-10... oh, gee what programs will not work and have to be upgraded... Wow I look forward to a new OS and learning an new approach to finding things... excuse me time to drink some milk, stomach ... ULCER... OUCH...

Hummm UBUNTU looks tempting

BTW, what do you expect press releases to say? That it's a piece of $h1t, don't think so!

I've been 'testing' Windows 10 over four months and find it overall, very stable, fast and efficient. With that said, there have naturally been things that needed attending to, (reason for the test edition), and I have seen it improve over the months tremendously. I'm running it on an older computer and still find it efficient. Cortana, (the little lady that lives inside the computer) has had her problems but has shown a lot of improvement in recent weeks. Just like any 'lady', you have to treat her right and know how to stir her up. Then she shows her gratitude and works nicely. Overall, I give Windows 10 a thumbs-up. Of course, as with ANY new operating system, there will be bugs to be removed, even after it's official release, but it will happen. 'Free' is a pretty fair price in my opinion, especially if you're using Win 7 or older. There is no longer a Windows Media included and the new browser, "Edge" replaces Microsoft Explorer, and is MUCH improved over MSE.

BTW, in the MS world it is NEVER a good idea to upgrade windows versions. You should always do a "Nuke and Pave". That is wipe your computer clean, normally format the hard drive and install the new version, then re-install your programs. Microsoft has had issues with every single version when you try to upgrade it. I would be willing to bet they even recommend that in the fine print somewhere.

When Microsoft says user friendly what they really mean is turn over control of the computer to us.

Some of us would rather control how we do things vs having the computer control how we do things.

Perhaps someone more knowledgeable than me can clairify, but I think I read that, while the upgrade is free for a year, Windows is going into the cloud and you will be charged a monthly fee for using it after that. Is this correct?

They do that with programs like "Office" or "Outlook", but I never heard of this for an OS.

BTW, they are not the only ones moving to a subscription model.

If it's as good as 3.1, it's better than 8!

I would never say never, but it is the cleanest way to do it but much more work. Not everyone is up to it.

I've used a few of them. Windows for Workgroups, 95, 95 osr2, 98, XP, NT4.0, Vista, 7 and now 10. Had a little fun with Ubuntu as well--now that was a smooth experience.

I would say that anyone who has 8.1 would have less anxiety in 10 than someone who is moving from 7.

I like the Modern apps from the Microsoft store even though some of them are dogs. My kids are amazed that I can download apps on my computer that they play on their tablets.

You guys who have been testing 10, what is the status of current Printer Drivers under this new operating system?? Are we going to have to purchase new printers if we have had our current one(s) for a while?

Anyone heard anything from HP or Epson about current printers supporting 10?
