WPC 1530 - The Street*
Jul 24, 2015 03:25:01   #
St3v3M Loc: 35,000 feet

Hey Hedgehogs, it’s time for another Weekly Photo Challenge. This week’s theme is entitled The Street.
- Be sure the title or description of your entry explains your interpretation of the theme.

*ENTRIES MUST BE TAKEN BETWEEN 24 JULY AND 29 JULY 2015
- Entries without the appropriate EXIF Data will be removed

The challenges are simple. You start with a theme, but the twist is that everyone needs to submit a title or description with their photo that explains the ‘who, what, where, why, when or how’ they went through to get it. This helps us ‘feel’ the moment as you did, but can also help with voting. You might even find some great tips along the way.

This is about challenging yourself, pushing beyond your limits, so have fun and try anything and everything whether you are good at it or not. Remember; you can't win if you don't try. Good luck and have fun!

HELP -
Street photography http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Street_photography
"Street photography is photography that features the human condition within public places. Street photography does not necessitate the presence of a street or even the urban environment. Though people usually feature directly, street photography might be absent of people and can be an object or environment where the image projects a decidedly human character in facsimile or aesthetic."

I think it's unfair to restrict pictures to a certain time period. I don't have the time to go out and shoot a specific subject and meet a deadline. But I always have good shots in my file. For example, this week I would have liked to enter a great street scene I shot in Naples. But it would be rejected, as was my entry last week on wood. I'm sure many others feel the same. You're closing the door on some excellent pictures.

Maybe a weekly photo challenge is not for you.

I'm sure you do, as do many other Hoggers. Doesn't that give an unfair edge to members who don't have thousands of photos on file shot over the last 50 years?

The idea of the challenge (my interpretation) is to inspire shooters to get out and see what they can do, given a subject and a time period. If you don't have time, you have decided your priorities are elsewhere.

The weekly limit does pose a challenge. I work as an engineer and work long hours. I take most of my photos on my monthly camping trips and weekends. Many weeks it almost impossible to find time to get out with a camera.

I do agree with St3v3M comments on this item. I have time and weather constraints, which restrict my photographic outings. When I see entries from the Florida sun week in week out it is frustrating but I cannot do much about it.

A weekly competition has rules, which to be fair to all entries, we should all abide by. There are 52 weeks in the year, if we miss entering the competition now and again so be it but lets not shoot the messenger.

It isn't much of a challenge to choose a photo from the files. I could do the same and enter every week, but where's the fun in that?? But when the topic is right and the elements outdoors agree, then I'm in. And if not, then maybe next week's topic will be a good one. If you don't want to play then don't whine.

I like the time limit.

It forced me to get the camera out this week when I probably wouldn't have.

I hadn't entered the contest for a while because I don't have an extensive file of photos to sort through and find that 'perfect shot'.

I think St3v3M has set up a good contest for the reasons others above have already stated. I'm with BigWahoo and OddJobber in that regard. Keep the contest as it is.
