Read a very interesting article about Capture One from Phase One. I have been an avid LR user, but seriously giving thought to trying out Capture One.

Wonder if any hoggers have tried or are using Capture One and what are your thoughts about it.

Interesting. However being double the price of lightroom I would have to wait for it to go on sale. A very big sale!

Well phase One makes Capture1 so articles by them should be interesting but methinks they may be a tiny bit biased.

I have C1 Pro7. I tried both C1 and Adobe LR at the same time after the Aperture bomb in June of 2014. Couldn't decide which I liked better, C1 had a sale going on, so I bought both C1 Pro7 and also the Adobe Photographers special.

A month or so after that Phase One came out with C1 Pro8, and it was a paid upgrade. I had just spent $ to buy Pro7 so that rubbed me the wrong way. Even worse, I discovered C1 Pro7 did not support RAW rendering for my (new at the time) Nikon D750. And apparently it never will. To get D750 support I would have to to pay more $$ to Phase One. In the meantime, Adobe sent an upgrade that enabled editing RAW files from my D750.

Since then I have used C1 occasionally and I have used Adobe a lot. Phase One C1 was a steeper learning curve for me, than LR but easier than Photoshop. Phase One C1 has power and with practice one can get good results quickly, but some things, like red eye, require a lot of steps. I like C1s RAW rendering engine, it's better than Adobes, It takes less time using Phase One to get what I want. BUT I will never get an update from them for my latest camera. I abhor Phase One's business practices.

I have gotten multiple updates from Adobe since last year, and the Photographers Special with LR and PS is a great deal. Adobe seems to want my business. I plan to continue to subscribe with Adobe. I do not plan to buy Phase One Pro8.

Hope that helps.

Was there a link to another article missing? The one you supplied (https://www.phaseone.com/en/Imaging-Software/Capture-One.aspx) seems like pure marketing by Phase One to me.

I would be interested in a third-party review.

Someone is sure to know for certain, but I wouldn't think there's an easy way to convert the LR catalog.

Agreed, the link took me to Phase One's home page with the overview for the software.

Thanks Db. That is a really thought-provoking discussion. Now I will look at Cap One more closely.

I didn't know your link led to the same article as mine. I found it thought provoking as Dave said and you obviously did as well. ;)

Very much so. Like all software they all have their good points and their bad. By you working with C1, are you just trading problems as with LR.

I did watch a few of the videos on C1, have to admit, it does have some things I really like.

I think I might install the trial version and give it a go.

Good idea, let us know how it goes. I'll be sticking with Lightroom for the foreseeable future as I have so many photos in their excellent cataloging system which makes it possible to find photos I'm looking for quickly. ;)

C1 even admits that their catalog system is not up to Lightrooms.

According to C1 the importing of a LR catalog is as simple as a few clicks. But we all have heard that before.
