Hi Pilot:
I think my post clarifies the reasons for going with, or not going with, a non-manufacturer lens. You may not think that. The question is: If youre not interested in the subject or already know all youll ever need to know about the subject, why are you bothering to read these posts? Dont you have something better to do? Try reading my 2 out of 3 post again. Maybe you missed something!
I did read those post. Extremely boring.

Yes it is indeed a nice feature which I use quickly when the BS gets too deep, or someone is denigrating a product incessantly. If it stays interesting, I do remain on the thread especially the way MT Shooter handed Don his lunch on Tamron lenses!

Of course, that raises the question: Why does Pilot read what he considers to be boring posts? Could it be that you have little to intellectually offer, and so resort to snide remarks? Surely Pilot has something better to do? Clean a lens or study a camera manual. No telling what boring things you might learn.

Boy, talk about snide!

So, Pilot has no explanation for why he thoroughly reads boring unimportant posts which have no meaning for him.
Hmmm - That's interesting!

Now you're boring...bye.

Still no explanation! Perhaps you dont even know why you read such posts? Id guess that Pilot has no friends, no mentor, no heroes, and few social contacts. Maybe you shouldnt be allowed to buy guns?

As a dealer I return many products to the manufacturers as a service to my customers. In two years as a Tamron dealer I have had absolutely no requests to return a lens Tamron for any reason at all, and never had a customer come to me with any dissatisfaction at all, even with their cheaper models. The one complaint I have had about Tamron is the "plasticy" feel of the barrel on their consumer level products and I agree with that comment completely.
I return one lens to Nikon about once every month or two (last one was for tight zoom on a DX 18-200mm, turned out to be dirt in the extending zoom mechanism).
I return 2 to 4 Canon lenses every month, almost always for the same problem, AF motor failure. Most of these lenses are over one year old and Canon will not cover the repair cost anyway due to their "shortest in the industry" lens warranty. All other manufacturers warranty their lenses for 5 or 6 years (Tamrons being the longest) while Canon only gives one year.
Internet "reviews" are almost never worth the paper they are written on......oh, thats right, no paper involved either. Take these review with a grain of salt. There is not a single product on the market that you cannot find horrific review on, if you want to search long enough. Each of these bad reviews is always offset with MANY more positive reviews every time.
And no one is EVER "better off" with a grey market lens, simply because Nikon will NEVER work on that lens (or grey market bodies) even if you offer to pay them double their labor rate, it just will not happen.
As a dealer I return many products to the manufact... (

Your analysis of reliability is completely off base. If there are more Nikon's and Canon's on the market, your going to send more of them to repair than other brands. You are a very small time operator in an obscure market area. Your experience is your own and can not be useful other than anecdotal. And certainly can not be used to make a general statement about any product.
So maybe we all have missed something here. What did the store, an authorized dealer, tell you what was going to happen: 1) give you new lens to replace faulty lens, 2) give you immediate refund, 3) tell you they were sending lens back to Tamron for repair , or 4) was there another option? Like other posts your involvement is with the authorized dealer and not Tamron. And if store told you to contact Tamron then they are wrong.
