Have been waiting for the canon 7d mark 2 to drop in price, 42nd St Photo is having a sale, body only for $1229.00 lowest I've seen with no tax, free double memory cards and warranty. Have never used 42nd St. has anyone had good or bad experience with them. Thanks Bill

Mixed bag, mostly leaning towards the shady side.

Just go up to search and type in "42nd Street Photo" and settle down to read a while.

May I suggest you try the excellent UHH Search Tool (left upper row of the Forum screen). If you search on "42nd Street", you will find a wide array of answers to your question.

B&H's current price of $1499 is already a $300 reduction from the original introductory price of $1800. I would stay away from 42nd St Photo. Besides their somewhat dubious sales practices, the camera you will get at that price is a grey goods import without a Canon Warranty.

thanks for your post. Just picked up a 7d II at B&H price and was concerned about an additional reduction. You provided me some comfort.

It is totally sketchy, its along the lines of Abes of Maine and 6ave. -- BUT if your a gambler you could get some great prices. The cameras are "gray market". I buy lenses and cheaper point and shoots from 6ave and Beach Camera all the time and have great results - but if it came to a 7D mII - I would go to a more reputable dealer.
This may make people want to throw up -- but for my BIG purchases I go to Best Buy. It is the only camera place in my town. And if there is a problem - I can walk in and talk to a human. (plus they have interest free financing)

Only store in town leaves you no choice. Surely, if there is a best buy then Walmart can't be far away. Sad to think that the only camera stores in a town are Best Buy and Walmart. Of all places, the most knowledgeable sales person I found locally was at a nearby Walgreen store. Funny world.

When I bought my 7D years ago - I drove to Houston (3 hours) to go to a "real" camera store, "The Houston Camera Exchange". And it was an awful experience.. They were so mad that I only wanted body only - no kit lens that they were rude and nasty. Then when I asked what was the difference was between Full Frame and Crop Sensor - the Canon rep literally rolled his eyes and sighed in disgust.
(There was a Sigma rep there that felt bad for me and explained the difference)
I wanted the camera so badly that we bought it anyway. But I wish we had walked out.
So even though the kid at Best Buy has no idea what Full Frame vs. Crop Sensor is.. at least he is nice and excited to sell me an expensive lens. Better than driving 3 hours for rude service.

They are not on the Canon Authorized dealer list.

I talk to very helpful humans all the time at B&H, I may not know what the thing I need is called, or if they even have such an item, but they are always there to discuss your problem. Never even have to go through a bunch of recorded menus or anything. Just wonderful service with a great attitude, and they know their photography......no kid just selling cameras! Call their 1-800 #, they are there to help us.
