Had to get out there the other day and get some pictures of the blossoms on my tree. The Nebraska winds did it again and split the middle of this tree. We have it tied together but don't know if it will work...sure hope this is not the last year for this tree.

This looks like a flowering pear tree. If so they are prone to spliting. wind took 2 from next door neighbor.

think this is a Cleveland Pear tree...no fruit...just pretty spring blossums and shade for the summer and pretty golden brown leaves in the fall. If you are right, I am sure going to miss this tree.

Very pretty shots Debby
I know where Cleveland is  If it is split pretty bad it will not last long. There is no real way to wrap it and hold it. The only thing you can try is to drill through it and use a few bolts to hold it. If you wrap it to tight with any thing it will choke it. I had one in the yard get split. Bolted it and it lasted another 5 years. Till wet ground and wind tipped it over. If you want to try it , just ask and I will go into it more.:-D

Thanks for the comments Erv...we used a rubber strap about 3" wide it is about a 3rd of the way up the tree..I would be interested in the bolting you talk about here, maybe we should give that a try??? I need to really look at this again and see if it is working as it was last fall that we wrapped it...and I will have to admit I have not gotten up there to check it out.
