I received an email from Nikon today and they offered to do a maintenance tune-up and cleaning on my 7100. With the offer was the necessary paperwork and label to ship it to their service center in NY. They will do this free and pay for 2nd day shipment cost both ways through UPS. A six day business turn around is stated in there offer.
I packaged up my 7100 and took it to the local UPS store. I removed the lens, battery and cards as per the instructions. I marked my calendar for next Wednesday to check on it. I never had an offer for my other Nikons, a D300 and a D3200.

I received the same offer this morning.

I will take Nikon up on their offer but finding a time slot when I can be without my camera will not be easy.

Seems they are doing it for some D800 owners as well.

I'd hate to think it was a scam...

It is not a scam. This was covered this morning when I posted about the same subject.

Not sure about the D800 but the D7100 had a problem with oil on the sensor...I've had mine cleaned twice under warranty in the last few months...cleaned it the first time and more appeared after two months...Nikon just never admitted there was an issue...maybe this is their way of getting around it... :?:

I noticed my sensor got spots frequently. I just cleaned it and it was fine. I wonder if it is similar to the D600 issue.

Not sure about the 600 but I have seen various reports, since I bought my 7100, about a few Nikon models with the same oil issue...

I just read about this on Nikon Rumors. According to their research, only about 100 D7100 users got the email. Only those who registered their cameras were eligible.
