I put this shot in the photo gallery, but was asked to post here also. Slight PP was done on the shot. Feel free to comment and make any changes you would like

This beautiful lily is indeed art, of the most natural variety. The colors are so rich, and you got all the detail. Now Bob Yankle may be able to take this shot and turn it into more beautiful art than you or I can imagine, but it is a real beauty just as it is.

If it were mine, I would crop out some of the black background on the left and top, and clone out those white spots back there to make it more uniform.

There are lots of other pieces of art hiding inside it, too. I may have a go at it if I can find time tomorrow to play. A close crop of just the center is one that jumps out at me, and one of the buds alone. There are many possibilities for this.

I'm hoping Bob will treat us to one of his fine art interpretations. Thanks for sharing it, and hang around to join in the conversation!

Please free to play with it. The only PP I did was to bring up the contrast to bring up the "veins in the pedals and darken the background

Great shot NJ. Beautiful flower well captured.
The only change I would make to the original is a tighter crop and as minnie says clone out the white spots.
I tend to like close crops with a central subject at times so cropping is purely a personal choice here.
Glad to see you posting here my friend.

Here is the cropped version. Is this what the two of you had in mind?

Yep, I'd probably take a tiny bit off the top.

How about you Billyspad? You're the florist here.

Probably does not need artistic interpretation Billy style but could not resist playing on a great shot after you invited change.

That is what I am here for. To get others ideas and others point of view. Looks like a completely different flower. Nice going

Hoped you would like it. The idea of critique plus allowing for other members practical input is a good one one I feel.

Hi NJFrank, glad to see you here!
That's a lovely daylily, perfectly focused and depth of field to get it all. You plan to frame this? That's always a consideration for something beautiful and well done. If you do so, you have space on both sides that can be lopped off.
And yes, as others have mentioned, some of those little spots in the black area would be best gone. I like your square crop maybe more so, but does it leave space on all 4 sides for a mat? (Also, square frames not quite as common or as popular?) Ah, but then too, you may not have printing in mind at all.
I'm always a little more lenient with someone else's interpretation of a scene or subject as to what I would do with it, it's your vision, I'll go for what someone else does their way, not mine, especially when there is nothing needed to fix in the post process dept. This is a beautiful lily well done, and it is hard to "improve " on reality.

Jenny

Thanks for the comments much appreciated. I have taken the suggestion of cropping it and getting rid of the white spots. I didn't mind twitching original. I think in this case it worked better for the shot.
I am glad I was told about this forum. I think I have gotten more of out this forum in one day than I have gotten out being here in UHH for almost two years. I enjoy the give an take.

I know it's nitpicking but I find it odd no one has noticed a bit of softness on the right side of the lily. Could it have been a breeze? I do find it to be a terrific shot.

Thanks for the observation and compliment. Your eye has once again come into play with my shots. That is by no means a criticism on my part.
Glad to hear your thoughts on my shooting.

I just have to say for a shot taken on a whim while leaving to go somewhere you did a magnificent job, soft edge or not.
