While I was in my back yard trimming tree limbs, I was standing near this yellow flowering bush which has been in our yard for years. We don't know if it is a pretty weed or a flowering bush.

The flowers/blooms range in size from "pea size" to about the size of a 50 cent piece. There was a small skinny insect on it and I don't know the name of it. Any hints?

Flowering bush/weed?

This bloom is about the size of a 50 cent piece.

I have seen this in one of my books. Will have to go through them and see if I can find it. How does it smell? Looks like it should make the whole yard smell good.

It doesn't have much of a smell to it. It looks pretty but no aroma from it that I can detect.

If that is a mantis then it must be a baby mantis... only 1/4 - 1/2" long.

Don't know what the flower is but the bug appears to be an assassin bug nymph. From the web

Okay, did a little research and I believe the plant is a Globeflower (kerria japonica). From web:

I looked at that in my book too. The leaves don't look right tho. Bruce could you shot a leaf when you get a chance and post it?

Here is a photo that shows a leaf although slightly out-of-focus. But I believe that there is enough detail to make a comparison.

Thanks Molly... It just takes off every year. It is about 4 ft high and about 5-6 feet wide. We thought that it was just a pretty weed...
