I just purchased a Tamron 18-270 lens and like it very much.

I was wondering if anyone else uses this lens and what they think of it.

I use it on my Canon Rebel SL1 and so far so good.

I am just a beginner and I know it will take time for my shots to really look good.

I have had mine for years and LOVE it! I use mine on all my Canons (7D, SL1, & XSi) Keep practicing and you will get great photos. The SL1 is such a little hidden gem of the camera world - This Tamron lens is a great match for it.

Another great fun match for your SL1 is a Canon 28-105 USM 3.5-4.5. (They don't make these anymore - I bought mine on Ebay from Japan) but it was only 75 bucks and its the same size as the 18-55. So it's a nice cheap little lens that will fit well on your SL1 and it takes great pics.

I think they are great. We use ours on the Nikon D90 and D7000. Works very well as a walk around lens on the D90 for my wife.

Chose the Sigma 18-300 instead and love it. Either one is far less than Nikon or Canon wants for something similar. Glad you like it.

My camera buddy has one for his Pentax, which produces great results generally. He finds the focusing too slow for his motor racing/rally work which is what he does alot of. So he has found some of it's limitations. Doesn't mean it's great lens, just not if a fast lens a priority. Just a few posts up someone was asking about a new Nikon body and would the high ISO be any good. Someone else said they probably wouldn't use the higher ISO facility. Well maybe they wouldn't but for some it's very important. My point is, what is a shortcoming for one user is a non-issue for another user.

The only fault that I have is the lens creep if I forget to lock it. Apart from that I use it on my Canon 70D almost exclusively and have had some amazing shots with it.

I have been using it for years first on a D3100 and now on a D7100. I use it 95% of the time and love it. It is my walk around camera when I only want to carry one lens (most of the time!!). I switch to a prime or a narrower focal length, more expensive zoom, only if I am planning a special shot and too be honest, the difference is negligible to my non-professional eye. The only time I might need to use the others is in low light or macro shots.

I had the old original for my Nikon d300 and it had a problem connecting to the camera(no focus at times) After a couple years and 3 trips to tamron they finally replaced the contacts and it has been wonderful ever since, it is one of my sharpest lens but slow to focus in low light.
