This photo was from last night. It took a while to get it and would appreciate your feedback.

You could use a little less exposure (-0.3 to -1.0 stop) to reveal more lunar details and then post process to reveal more shadow detail. This will result in a longer tonal scale.

Hi pappy0352: I'd say, if this is your first try at a moon shot you did very well, other than being slightly over exposed. Out of curiosity what equipment, lens and settings did you use?

I used an Olympus SP-810UZ bridge camera. The shot was tricky due to the fact that I do not have a full manual mode so I had to trick my camera to get the settings as close as I could to what I wanted.

Settings
shutter speed 1/60
ISO 200
F-stop f/5.3
EV -2.0
Focal length 126mm
Focal length in 35mm 681mm

Try f/8 @ 1/125sec, 100 iso, this is a good base to start at, use a tripod & set the shutter release on the timer.

Very nice shot!! Do a little PP on it and crop it pretty tight. You will enjoy it more. The Moon is one that you can crop tight. Very good first Moon!

thank you ERV----------I do have the 70-400 Canon f/4L lens
That may have gotten me a better shot. Will try it next clear nite. Did use tripod. When enlarged, it is not clear.
I don't have photoshop

You are still just a little over exposed. And with that 400L it will knock your socks off. Just take a shot and look at your exposer. and go from there lighter or darker. When you get it right take a few and work on the focus.

Looks that way here too. :-( Like we need more rain. Was hoping to start getting the garden in shape this weekend. Was just getting dry.
