For an easy C to F conversion, and you can generally do it in your head: Deg C X 2 - 10% +32 = Deg F

In this case 14 x 2 = 28 -3 = 25 +32 = 57 deg F. I rounded the 10% but it's close enough for government work!

It also works going the other way but is a bit more complex mental exercise

Hi Robert, re 14c that is about 57f,

so now the rest of the world who are way behind the eight ball Knows,

Its about time you got into the metric system, ie ltrs not gallons, meters not feet and inches, I mean the Olympic games, does all the measurements this way, that is not the Mile race, but the 1500mtr, etc,

Now i am not being bloody minded, I was born in the Uk, and have had to change to the metric system, and believe me it is so much better, even you have 100cents to a dollar, not like we used to have 240 pennies ti the pound, so why dont you go all the way, like most of the rest of the world has, Have a good day Colin

Hi Robert, re 14c that is about 57f, br br so no... (show quote)

I suspect that the reason the US didn't convert back in the 60's (?) when there was a push on to do so was that the cost of conversion was just too great--even the shade tree mechanics would have had to purchase an almost complete new set of tools; for the machine tool manufacturers and heavy industry the cost involved would have been horrendous.

Politically, it was a non-starter! That said I agree that the metric system is easier to use Centimeters & 1/10's vs 1/4" and 'x' number of little thingies :D especially when transferring a measurement from a plan to a piece of work, but mass vs. weight is a more difficult concept.

I was fortunate to have a Chemistry & Physics teacher in high school that made us learn and use it; then it was a PIA, now I'm glad I can understand it
