My wife and I are going to Cave Cove for a day and then take the the Blue Ridge Parkway north (our final destination is Philly). I know this question has been asked before but any suggestions on good photo ops on our trip up the parkway?
BRP and the Skyland Drive are both pretty much continual photo ops. The NPS has good info on their web site of highlight points.

Checking with the NPS is a good idea. Also use google and enter Taking pictures on the Blue Ridge Parkway. I have been told, but haven't had the chance to check it out, that google maps has a feature that will pinpoint good photo locations.

Mabry Mill will give you some good options. But the entire route is gorgeous. Just enjoy.

Every day, get up before sunrise and wait for the light to flow down the ridges and reveal the mists below.

Mabry Mill is indeed a must. Near Meadows of Dan and Fancy Gap Va. Just two miles past the mill is Woodberry Road, (turn right) and just a 1/4 mile up the road is the Woodberry Inn, we stayed there in April and it was wonderful. Very nice Innkeeper and a nice restaurant with reasonable prices. You literally don't have to exit the parkway.

It called "Cades Cove". Have fun.
Once you make that drive you'll want to do it again someday. Make that day a bit earlier in the year (early June I believe, it's been a long time) and you'll catch the mountain laurel and rhododendron in bloom along most of the roadsides.
It's a beautiful sight to behold.

The BRP, being the passenger is the way to go, at least from the sourthern terminus to Asheville. Road is pretty twisty, a motorcycle nirvana. Good in the car. The Skyline is much easier to drive, not as twisty. Run both, and you will be back to take advantage of the places you missed or just went by. If you are hungry the Pisgah Inn Restaurant is worth stopping at.

I assume that you are going to Cades Cove?? From there you will need to take the road out of Cades Cove all the way to the Sugarlands Visitor Center in Gatlinburg. Turn right at the visitor center and proceed through the Park toward Cherokee, NC, to the BRP entrance. The southern terminus of the The Blue Ridge Parkway is at Chreokee.
Photo opportunities on the Parkway include Looking Glass Mountain, Looking Glass Falls (a short drive off the Parkway near Brevard), Craggy Gardens, Glassmine Falls, Mt. Mitchell State Park (directly off the Parkway), Graveyard Fields, Linville Falls, the Linville Viaduct, Grandfather Mountain, Moses H. Cone Memorial Park, Stone Mountain, Mabry Mill, Peaks of Otter, Apple Orchard Mountain, and many more.
The Parkway turns into the Skyland Drive near Waynesboro, Va. and continues into the Shenandoah National Park. All this can easily be a four-day trip at best.
Enjoy!
Depends on what you like to take pictures of....
I live close to the Blue Ridge Pkway,- about 20 minutes away. Transylvania County NC. ( yeah...that is really it's name...)
We have more waterfalls in this county than any other in the U.S. So, if waterfalls, and mountain views are your thing....look us up!
T
Civil War Battlefields, too.
I hope you're planning a few days for this part of your trip.
Have a GREAT trip!
The best way to do the parkway is to drive 5 miles, then get OFF the parkway. the back roads are fabulous!!

Do not miss Luray Caverns if you haven't been there already. One of the best things we did when we drove the Blue Ridge Parkway. I shot some wonderful pictures in the caverns with a Canon A630, so I can imagine what you'd get with a higher end camera.
