Some persons like "Movies" (fine) others like still photography (like me)
Here is my question: WHY would anyone want a "movie" function on a still camera ? or a Wi-Fi function ? If I had any need for a movie, I would buy a movie camera or a video camera.
It "bugs" me no end, when buying a still camera and having to pay for a movie camera for which I have NO NEED.

Photojournalists and reporters. In the field of journalism everyone needs to be able to do everything. This is also one of the major markets for camera manufacturers. If a multimedia package is needed, one person with a camera that does both video and stills is useful. Wifi helps them turn in work quicker. It is cheaper for manufacturers to put these options in all of the cameras rather that just one segment of the market.

I have both on my camera and find that I can get the still shots that I want from the movies. Just did a video of a trail drive moving horses and pack mules from winter pasture to their summer home. Was able to pull several good shots of equal quality with other still shots in the drive.

Not going to "attack" you, but I have never understood why some people get so worked up because their camera has video capability.
I never shoot video, but having that function available doesn't bug me at all. There is always the chance that something unexpected will occur that will make me glad to have it. As far as paying extra because of it, unlikely. It's a function of the firmware and merely makes use of the existing hardware. Do you make use of every single function available on your camera? I would bet not, and I would bet that having those functions doesn't bother you. Why should video capability be any different? Do you think it makes you look like less of a "photographer" because your camera has the function?
GPS? Both of my Canons have it and I rarely use it. Some people use it all the time. I would imagine that it does add some cost, but not enough that I am going to worry about it. If you don't want to pay for it, then there are plenty of fine cameras available without it.

It is practical for camera makers to include the video in a basically still image camera. The video function is not much more than one extra button, one extra plug and a bit extra programming in the firmware. You can put a tape on the button and the plug and then you will hardly notice you have a video camera ;)

You would find that you camera without video would cost more than the same camera with if they had to make two cameras that had different feature they would not have the volume and your camera without video would cost more. Just do like I do an don't use it. I never use the burst feature on a camera. If they took it off for us that don/t I don't think the price would go down. - Dave

Wifi is great...especially when I forget my cable release at home...or for when my cable release cable isn't long enough.

Canon, Nikon and others, don't know how their cameras will be used. Therefore they make them for the broadest market. It's that simple. As far as variouse features being used or not is a personal decision made by the individual. As far as burst is concerned, if the 7d2 or the 1dx didn't have it, no one would by either one. It's all marketing, they are not in the business of making cameras, they are in the business of making money.

Basically the same reason drive-through ATMs have braille. It's easier and more economically practical to make one model for all purposes than make two models with one omitting a feature which is not always needed.
