Do a search on YouTube ... you will find what you need for free.

If you want to spend money ... Lynda.com has all types of courses to approx 25 per month.

Seems to be two types of courses around some which present you with how to do something, and then there those that have Accreditation.

The later have a formal syllabus and a recognised qualification at the end and may be a requirement for a higher level course and may count as credit towards a higher level course.

E.g

http://www.cmit.ie/creative-courses-distance-learning-courses/fetac-elearning-digital-photography/

This is a level 6 course, which tends to be around the same level as the first year of a degree. And counts as credit to a number of higher level programs, it is only a 12 week program of study.

The advantage of a course like this is it gives a reasonable all round grounding in everything you should know, however it can only touch the basics with such a short course. But you do get feedback on your progress which I think is important.

One of the problems with learning a subject is that you don't know what you need to know. This type of course should have you basically able, at the end of it.

The other type of course will take you deeper into a particular area of interest, If your not interested then you don't have to study it. In fact there is no real attempt at evaluating how much you have learned.

Personally I think finding the holes in my knowledge is useful and being guided through the basics valuable , at least initially. The other type of learning you can dig away at in your own time there is a vast array of tutorials on youtube and other sites.

I am a little dubious about sites selling courses with no feedback on your own work and no valid certification. The only qualification these courses give you is the opportunity to access another bunch of video's at this fantastic discounted rate with $1200 of value for the limited time offer of $99.95 and wait there is more...

Seems more to be about selling you video's than you actually learning anything.

I've not taken online classes. For those of us unfortunate enough to live in SoCal there is a very fine, reasonably priced, public photography school.

http://tri-communityphotoprogram.com/

The classes are hands-on, the teachers are all pros, the tuition is about $200.00 a term, usually 12 weeks. I have been going there three plus years, and although I am not a pro, I have seen the quality of my photos improve.

It is located in Covina, CA, Los Angeles County.

I took a couple from Bryan Peterson's site. I really liked that you get to see the other students' work and critiques, not just your own.

Check the list of courses, and also read the info on how they are conducted:

Another thought. Use MeetUP.com to locate photography groups in your area. Here in Colorado Springs there are several groups. There are all sorts of opportunities for learning. You won't get any sort of certificate but you will meet a lot of photographers to hang out with and share photo ops with.

I've enjoyed Tony Northrup's Kindle books. Each chapter has links to private youtube video tutorials where he demonstrates the techniques from each chapter. I started with his Stunning Digital Photography and am working my way through his Lightroom 6 course. Best thing is the Kindle books are only about $10, so you're not risking much. The physical books are about twice as much. If you want to learn Adobe software, the Adobe web site has lots of great tutorials. And youtube has a million and one good and not so good apostles out there. Good luck.

Thanks, Bryan Peterson is one of my choices. I took the fundamentals of photography by Joel Sartore on line courses before. It helps just a bit just enough to know what DSLR is.

Thank you for your info. I would seriously like to learn photography in depth and perhaps to put it into real work someday without breaking my budget.

B&H have some pretty good seminar video's on youtube. Some of these run for 90 minutes or more.

Frank Doorhof is a pretty amazing teacher and photographer , producing some fantastic images. His stylist is amazing too, she is so creative. I found this video very inspirational. I need to watch it again.

I'm currently enrolled in one by Shaw Academy. I wouldn't recommend it unless you know absolutely nothing about photography. Upon completion they want to sell you a diploma.
