Be careful as Windows10 will not allow you to opt out of any updates unless you have Win10 Professional. Just saying not all updates are for the best :-)
Well Jerry, from what I have read, unless you have Win 7 Pro or above, meaning Ultimate or Enterprise, Windows 10
will automatically be installed to every computer out there.
It will come through Windows updates. I think there is going to be a bunch of pissed off people out there.

I don't have that icon, either. I'm glad I don't. I'm not going to rush to get Win10.
If you don't have the icon on your desktop all you have to do is go to Microsoft.com and you can get the free upgrade there and you will have a windows icon on your task bar after that.
I have 64bit pro on my laptop, I believe they will upgrade it to something simuliar for windows 10
I was wondering same if I will lose my 64 bit?

The Microsoft site says if you have pro 7 or 8.1 you will get pro10
After July 29th there will be no more free downloads.
July 29th of 2016 is the cut off point, you will have a year to get the free download.

Incomplete data set. What happens? I still use win2k and xp pro with NO issues.
What was your experience?

I'm going to get it while its free. Bad things seem to happen after Microsoft stops supporting an operating system.

64 bit has nothing to do with the OS, other than some OS can run 64 bit and others can't. I'm sure win 10 will have a 32 & 64 bit version.

Actually, 64 bit has everything to do with both the OS and the hardware of the computer..... as you said there will be both 32 bit and 64 bit versions and if you are running a 64 bit version you should receive a 64 bit upgrade.

I want to get the update but cannot find the Windows symbol that is supposed to be on the task bar. Any ideas, please.
hi I have researched this also:
First you need to have at least a win 7 system. Also it needs to be updated until you have the update KB3035583.
This is the enabling update and needs to show in your update history. This might take some time to get in your system depending on how well you allowed your system to update, but just like in the update from win 8 to win 8.1, nothing will happen until it is updated. At this point you most likely will not have the little windows icon on the lower left yet and might not have it until after the 29th of July when win 10 is supposed to be released. At this time, or at some later time, it will appear and you will be able to click on it to ( ahem ) "reserve" your copy. This then is supposed to automatically download onto your system and when done request authority to self install.

Thx guess I misread the date.

get it while it's free Jerry, download it, but don't install it until it until enough good reports are in
That's what I'll do, but I might have to delete it and get the newer version when they correct the problems that suddenly appear. :D
Can you just download it alone? Thought it self installed??????????
