I was at the slough yesterday and saw all kinds of photo opportunities for a long lens. While browsing through Adorama's website I saw that the Olympus 75-300 mm lens was 100.00 off. So I bought it. The consumer reviews were good. The Olympus 300mm prime will be released soon but I fear it will be very pricey, more than I'm willing to spend (unless it is comparable to the new Canon 100-400 lens- that would be hard to pass up). For anyone that is interested I will post some samples- what- me- actually post ? :)

The Olympus web site sells direct on all equipment and often has discounts on new, plus they have a factory refurbished page. I have not purchased any new Olympus equipment from any other source for some time. I get eMails almost weekly on one special or another. Recently there were some $200 off lens specials. Fathers day, they had the Olympus E-M10 with 14-42 lens for $499, plus $99 for the 40-150 lens.
Here's a link to one of their pages. Sign up for their eMail. They often have tips and sample images posted as well. Most recent eMail received... tips on shooting fireworks.

That looks like a good price. I have a M43 setup. It includes two Olympus M.Zuiko lenses and love both of them. I will be interested in hearing your thoughts on this lens after you have had time to get to know it.
Kuzano- I signed up for the Olympus site- thanks.

I bought the 75-300 just this past winter, absolutely love it. It takes about 75 percent of all my shots. On the short end (75 mm) I can take a picture (in focus) of a flower between my feet. I did buy it factory refurbished from Olympus at a very good price also.
And yes, I would like to see some of your shots.

Recommendation- Get the sight designed for the SP100-
Lens so far very good, but with BIF---get that sight

What is SP100? Is the sight by Olympus? I tried to find it but my combination of words didn't turn up anything.
I found it- pricey isn't it? EE-1 Dot Sight by Olympus
Yes I think I need one of those :)

Try searching for EE-1, just got one to go with my 75-300. have not had a chance to do a field test yet but looks promising.

Maybe you should try it before I buy it! Looks very interesting. Good thing I saved 100.00 on the lens as this little accessory will take all of that and then some. Thanks for the tip.
I have had the 75-300 f/4.8-6.7 lens for 1.5 years. It is small and light, but I don't love it. I will need to check out the EE-1 Dot Site too. This week I ordered the 40-150 f/2.8 since it was $200 off. It is the big brother to my favorite 12-40 f/2.8 which rarely comes off.

Will you please provide some specific detail on why you say "I don't love it"?
Focus is hunting in lower light. Works best in good light conditions. I found it hard to use for birds. I would prefer a faster lens. This was definitely one of my better photos. Lion was very still and in good lighting. I have ordered lenses directly from Olympus. If you don't order the extended warranty, they will off it to you at a discount later. Sweet.
