http://www.adorama.com/BG785PL.htmlHow does the red pin work? as in detach or move out of the way?
Before I break it, please. Won't fit on my Canon 6D with the pin.
Thanks.

I don't know, none of my Manfrotto heads have anything like that. Didn't you get an instruction book with it?

The instructions say to remove the pin if not needed. Push it out. you won't break it.
OK, thanks. Yes, this is a cheap tripod from (shhh.... Target)
but all I need is something for a once is a while shot still small enuf to bring in my truck or on the bike.
Push out the pin. I can do that~! LOL
Thanks. Love you guys! I got 2 replies here quicker than searching for 30 min on Inet.
Some cameras have an extra hole in the bottom that will accept that pin, the reason being to prevent the camera twisting on a tripod. As said, if you don't need it, trash it.
The pin is for Video Cameras look at the bottom of a video camera and there is a threaded hole and a non threaded hole to prevent twisting of the camera when panning

Got it! We have still and video cameras, and keep that pin in for the camcorders.

Correct. The second pin is commonly used on video cameras, most still cameras do not have a hole for the second pin & it is not really needed. Some base plates have a spring loaded second pin which retracts into the base plate if the camera being mounted does not have a hole for it. If your pin is fixed just remove it and set it aside, you do not need it.

I have that same Manfrotto tripod from target and that same mounting plate. The original that came with the tripod didn't have that pin, but two that I ordered as spares did. If you don't need it...pull it out. You might have to use a pair of pliers.

I have two Manfroto heads, one with the pin and one w/o. On the one with the pin it is chrome and appears to be smaller than the red pin in your pic. The red may be a pin cover for shipping. Gently pull up on the red pin to see if it is covering a spring loaded chrome pin.
