I just ordered a 400mm 5.6 canon and i want a good tripod. feel free to include pics.
Take a look at the Feisol line of tripods - I have one that is extremely sturdy plus light enough to travel with. Good luck there are so many good ones out there but I strongly recommend you buy the best one you can afford. look at Kevin Adams' blog - he has 22 tripods of different manufacturers.
I have a Really Right Stuff Carbon Fiber Tripod, it was expensive, but it will last a lifetime and the manufacturing is second to non and built right here in the good ole USA

But I do agree with dtjames, buy the best one you can afford.

What's the weight of the lens/camera combo? Also, what's your budget?
I just picked up a nice general purpose Vanguard that I really like.

Sure, But I found this one to be a good compromise between a good solid tripod with plenty of features without breaking the bank. The center column is fully articulating which I find useful for macro shots as well as the legs are multi angle for low angle photography. I also got the Vanguard Ball head which is solid and stable. There are other ball heads with more features, but again, it was a compromise of features vs. price.
