Seagate back up drive

I am looking to purchase a Seagate 2tb back up drive. Is there any difference in quality between the colors

Western Digital uses color codes to differentiate the quality of their drives. WD Black is their top of the line ENTERPRISE grade drives. Seagate doesn't have such a rating system by color coding. Knock on wood since I've been using WD Black drives for years without a single failure.

You might remember that a few weeks ago I returned my WD My Book 4TB drive under warranty. Unfortunately, with those drives desktop drives there is no way of knowing what kind of drive is inside. They sent me a new one, so I'm hoping for the best.
When I first bought a WD My Book from Amazon, the one I received did not work right, so I returned it immediately. Then the new one failed in a little less than a year. Now I have another, with two years left on the original warranty. If I open it to see what kind of drive is inside, I'll void the warranty.
My choice for a bare drive is either Black or Re.
By the way, "Re" is a stupid name for a drive. All of their drives have color names, and "Re" looks like a mistype of "Red," which they also sell.

Be sure to have MULTIPLE back up drives because they will eventually fail! I originally had two backups, when one of them failed, I promptly purchased TWO to replace the one. Am I paranoid? Perhaps, but I know that when the next one fails (with all of my photos on it!) I do have backups to my backup!

I got my Seagate backs ups from TigerDirect have 3 1T 2T 3T. DO NOT put all you eggs in one basket.

I currently have a "black" WD 1T backup. Only had it for a week but it automatically backs everything and is working good. Where I worked we liked WD better than Seagate, but I have been out of the business for 14 years.
My son and I are going to build a Box with multiple hard drives to make us our own cloud. Not that hard or expensive and should keep me from losing anything in the future.

And for those needing a new drive for laptops, check out the WD BLACK2 drive since it has both 120 SSD and 1TB hard drive enclosed in the same package. Boot times are drastically improved and the reliability of a WD BLACK HDD are combines in an elegant package that replaces your old HDD and set up is simple and easy so OS and boot are accomplished by the SSD portion. They even give you the "CLONE" software to transfer your old drive programs and files onto the new drive.
It's not like the hybrid Seagate drive design which uses the SSD as a simple buffer.

I mistakenly wrote that my Seagate was a 3 gig drive. It is actually 3 terrebites (sp?).
