This a truly fine idea. I am delighted that you brought this up.
For those few who do not realize this, the fine art of painting was really the photography of its day. Such concepts appear in ALL forms of art. For example, using a number of concepts in fine arts, some of my images have been likened to 'paintings'. For some folk, this is beautiful but this really means that the subject and composition as well as color must be well integrated into a harmonious image.
I am looking forward to the thoughts of our participants regarding the images submitted.
This is a great idea. I'm looking forward to learning from it!

Hi everyone. I would definitely do a photography one. Don't do the other. Maybe someone here could start one with just photos. I for one would love a lot more critiques of my work.
Thanks Tom
We do this at our photo club. Some of the members are pros and are very very good, maybe not "masters" but very very good. We all learn from each other. We also can send photos on up to a regional group of a few dozen clubs on a monthly and quarterly contest basis, either electronic images or prints. I've learned a tremendous amount about how to "make" a picture versus "take" a picture.
What an excellent idea Steve! Thank you,Thank you
Greetings,
Normally, I sit in the back row trying to listen and learn from this great forum, but this topic is right up my sleeve interest wise, so raising my hand.
I recently read a couple of articles on Annie Leibovitz's technique. They discuss how she achieves her painterly looks in her portraits. I never heard of this before: they talk about "Rembrandt lighting". How Leibovitz makes use of it in her photography. So it seems that photography can import certain technical elements from paintings. Never thought if it before I read the articles. I realize that not everyone is a fan of Leibovitz's very posed style, but I thought that her "Rembrandt lighting" technique might be relevant to this discussion.

Steve, I have no problems with it.
I would suggest you keep it to photography, there's plenty of it around.
I personally don't know anything about painting or sculpture. Is painting just like photography? I really don't know. It's easy to say yes, but we'd have to ask those with the MFA's. ;-)

I like the idea and will participate.
A great idea, I'll be looking forward to this feature, I think photography should make up the majority of the examples, but paintings should for sure be included.
I would suggest that Masters Critique should have its own section in the Forums, since it could be a good place to learn from the masters of the craft.

Good idea, and it was smart of you to offer a defense before someone mentioned copyrights.
I've wanted to do this for awhile now, but want to honor the owner's work too. Thanks again and looking forward to your comments! S-
