I do it with everybody I don't recognize or is new, especially when they come on here say they are/were Pros!!
Does it help you when they qualify it with, "I've been shooting for 50 years"?? Isn't that ANYBODY that's 60+ years old?

Some here appear to have huge technical knowledge. I learn from that.
But I want them to be able to connect the dots for me as well.
Personally I listen more when I know a guy can shoot and has demonstrated that ability. For me it gives them credentials! Others, I completely skip what they say! No credentials!!

Am I the only one? Am I the odd one here for wanting to take my advice from a guy/gal that has a proven portfolio?

What are YOUR thoughts on this?
What puts teeth into someone's advice more than someone else's, for you, or will you just listen to anybody?!

Nothing confrontational here, just posing the question?!?! ;-)

Show and tell does nothing for me.

I have found in my 65+ years that there are people who can do and people that can tell. Sometimes they are one, most times not. If what is being talked about is not biased, then I tend to see if it works for me. If it is being done with Mr. Hecklefrauser's mighty meat hook Then I figure it is in jest and act accordingly.

I might be in the minority here,
of course I do.
I then find it amusing when their advice is right, but they obviously don't follow it. :-D
Or, when their advice is wrong (that's just fun :-) ) and they argue it to death.

Some people i take at face value.
People who offer technical advice i look at more closely.
People like you? i read everything they've ever posted before judging.
Naturally if they have visited the chat room on more than two consecutive days i give them a red card.

I feel it takes away all credibility of website tutorials etc, when the author doen't use their own photographs.

I don't care if the only photo they ever took was the backside of the lens cap as long as the tech info is correct.

1. Have to have more time as a Forum member than I have.
2. Have to have a minimum of 1000 posts.
3. Extra points for living outside the U.S., shooting Nikon and drinking beer.
4. Points deducted for frequent postings in Chit Chat.

Tigger, either you have to read and verify ALL the tech that has been given, or you have to just take it at face value that the tech given is correct.
If taken at face value, how do you know it's correct?
If ten people say it's correct, is that good enough?
When a guy is telling you how to do some complex shot and all they've ever posted is the back of a lens cap(the dark side I assume  ), they are in hiding, and just joined...., that gives them credibility in your book?
I realize you were a little bit tongue-in-cheek, but is that enough?
Just asking?! ;-)

SS, are you saying that you should not be taken seriously because we can't see your photos? SS - interesting that you would start this topic. SS, I have a feeling that you maybe a world class photographer. SS, am I right?
SS, seems like that Alaskan guy really got under your skin in that thread.

Always read and verify tech info either by personal testing or research.
A 20 second comment on the forum often results in 20 hours on the internet making sure its correct.

Doesn't matter if a poster can make a certain shot or not because i'm going to attempt it with his info and it either works or it doesn't.
