Quilted barn outside of Jordan, Minnesota
Wow, that's the most colorful and intricate one I've seen.
Here is info for folks who aren't familiar with barn quilts, including a USA map:

This is becoming quite popular. There is a county or two in eastern North Dakota that have many of these and an actual map showing where they all are, you can google it.
I've got one from a near 100 year old "mule barn" in Charleston, Tennessee.
From what I found out, older farms in the Appalachian-Kentucky-Tennessee areas are where it started and like mentioned above, is having a modern day resurgence.

Thanks. This is the only one that I can see listed in Scott County, but will be on the lookout for more. This is just down the road from where my Sister lives.
From talking to a few owners,5 there is a shop who makes the painted patches. A while back there were only a dozen or so patterns, probably a lot more and custom type now.
When purchased, they get what you want and deliver it, mount it, etc. Most early barns had hand painted or real cloth which slowly fell apart.
Another person I talked to could read the quilts! She knew alot from her relitives. There were some patch barns back in the slavery days.
The patterns told how to get things like food, shelter, connecting routes, etc. Used as a portion of the underground railroad.
Interesting chat with her.
