What equipment did you use and was there any special setup? Can you walk us through it? The final image was 90% SOOC with minor post-processing. I used a 100mm macro lens on a Canon 5D Mk III camera. But, I used a special set-up which is basically explained in Bryan Peterson's video:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SCYG7HO_SZo

I shot my image indoors. In a Pyrex dish, I combined water, olive oil and sesame oil and added dish soap for stabilization. I backlit the Pyrex dish with a old, slide-film light box that was gelled with blue and yellow transparencies.

5) Do you post process your final images, and if so can you describe your workflow?
Do you post process your final images, and if so can you describe your workflow? I usually post-process my final images in Lightroom and occasionally in Nik's software (Viveza, Color Efex, and/or Silver Efex) or PSE, but for this image I only used LR for minor adjustments (e.g., cropping, clarity, sharpening, etc.).

6) Who or what has influenced your photography and what inspired you to take your winning shot?

An interview with debbie wrazen,

1) How long have you been into photography and what got you started?
My dad presented me with his childhood 'Brownie' at age nine, so over 40 yrs.

2) Do you have any formal training and what kind of photography do you do most?
My dad taught me the basics. I also took community ed. courses, online courses, read books, internet videos, hang around my local camera store, and of course, begin and start my day with UHH! Nature and landscape photography are my favorites.

3) In your opinion, what makes a good picture stand out from the rest?
Subject and technique make a good photo a great one.

4) What equipment did you use and was there any special setup? Can you walk us through it?
For the photo, 'A Bowl of Ripe Bananas' I utilized a gimbel head tripod, a single artificial light source in a dimly lit room with a dark background and a 75mm prime lens. I metered from the artificial light source.

5) Do you post process your final images, and if so can you describe your workflow?
I did not pp 'ripe bananas' but will use photoshop for color saturation and proper exposure.

6) Who or what has influenced your photography and what inspired you to take your winning shot?
I am always inspired by food photographers who must make food look extremely appealing and ready to eat while lending specific 'atmosphere' styles.

7) Would you change anything if you could do it again, and if so what?
The photo has a 'soft', old world look to it, but typically, I work to obtain a sharp image with most of my photography.

8) What is the one thing you wish you knew when you started taking photos?
I wish I listened to my dad's advice about film speed when I left home in my 20's. Most of my photos from that era of my life are not really that remarkable. I've been using a dslr for 10 yrs. Last August, I ventured into the mirrorless world.

9) What is your favorite photography accessory, other than your camera?
My favorite accessory is my tripod and remote.

10) If you had to choose one lens which one would it be and why?
My one lens would be the 75 mm prime. It's not that versatile but the photographs are 'luscious'.

11) What lighting equipment, if any, do you take on a shoot?
I will take a flash with a 'softner' if I am inclined to need a lighting source.

12) If you couldn't do photography what else would you do?
If I couldn't do photography I would look at the work of others! I spent my childhood with 'Life', 'Look', 'Women's Day', and of course, ' National Geo'.

13) Do you have any funny or interesting stories about your experiences?
No funny stories, just regrets for the opportunities missed just as I packed up my gear.

14) Is there somewhere we can see more of your work?
I don't have my work on any sites yet. I do send to close friends and share with my family. I've lots of requests to shoot family showers, school events and parties. People are always very grateful.

15) Do you have any advice for the rest of us?
The advice I give to my middle school photography club is to enjoy your own photos but delight in the work of others and learn from their experiences. I rarely show them my photos because I wish for them to build up a 'kinship' of a shared mutual respect for the technology, technique and art of photography. It is humankind's greatest invention ( next to fire, of course ) because photos tell us the truth about ourselves and our journey which is why humanity is beginning to deepen their questioning of social and global issues impacting our future. Thank you for this opportunity!
